Activities at Braeburn Lodge Care Home

Our dedicated activities team are constantly dreaming up new and wonderful ways to support and stimulate the residents we look after. From trips to crafts, parties to skittles, musical performances and quizzes, we include something for everyone and pride ourselves on including everyone into the fun. We have a brilliant team of volunteers who help us to deliver more trips, support us at events and pop in for a cup of tea and chat. We have pet therapy at least once per week (sometimes twice!) and we take advantage of every school break by holding large scale events that we can invite families with children to. We have been developing ties with our neighbours since we first opened and thanks to this, we have successfully brought together our residents with local churches, choirs, Brownies groups, and schools. Whatever your interests are, here at Braeburn, there's something for everyone.

Spalding Water Taxi

Spalding Water Taxi

On one of the hottest days we’ve had this year, we travelled over to Spalding for a special trip on the Spalding Water Taxi. We had the boat all to ourselves and there was even a special commentary to teach us about the history of the river, the channel and the buildings around it. It was very exciting to experience and made for a lovely day out.

Pet Therapy

Pet Therapy

One of our Carers, Lynn, surprised us this week by bringing her dog, Flapper, to see the residents. He is such a loving boy that she wanted to share his affection with us all. It was really something special seeing residents' faces light up as he enjoyed the fuss he was getting. We look forward to Flapper coming back to see us soon!

Zoolab Visits Braeburn

Zoolab Visits Braeburn

We had a lovely visit from Zoolab, who brought with them a selection of exotic creatures for us to handle and learn about. The favourite was definitely Ralph the guinea pig, who had lovely fur, which was perfect for a good fussing. The gecko was a big hit as well, with his velvety skin and very quick and big jumps that nearly caught us out several times! Fortunately, Chris was very quick on his feet and he didn’t succeed in his great escape.

Mary's Birthday

Mary's Birthday

Mary celebrated her birthday in style with numerous cards, gifts and, of course, a fabulous cake made by our Chef. Most importantly though, Mary had plenty of family and friends to celebrate the day with. Our staff were overjoyed to be able to enjoy this with her.

A Trip to Rutland Water

A Trip to Rutland Water

We had a wonderful treat this Friday, with a large group trip to Rutland Water for a picnic, a ride on the ferry, and some ice cream to finish! The weather could not have been better for us, with glorious sunshine and a gentle breeze. The water was lovely and calm and glistening blue. It's safe to say that we’re missing it already, and can’t wait to return for another fabulous day out!

Exercise with Ruth

Exercise with Ruth

We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves at our Keep Moving with Ruth Exercise class recently. We mixed things up by adding in some different equipment, such as glittery batons and bean bags, and we became quite musical, shaking the batons in time to the music. Things heated up a bit with the bean bags, and we all got a bit competitive about who could throw it the highest and catch it with the other hand. It's safe to say that Margaret trounced all of us!
