Our care commitments

Barchester’s Care and Life Enrichment Framework includes seven care commitments that guide everything we do, every single day. This holistic approach to care is underpinned by our well-trained teams to provide care and support that’s tailored to each individual.

The care and life enrichment framework

Person-centred care

We see each person as an individual, and want to understand and learn about each and every resident to deliver the best possible care. We will seek to understand their history, their life story, the things they love and the things they don’t. Residents and their families will always be at the centre of our decision making, working alongside our teams and professionals to get the best outcome. It’s our way of thinking, and our way of showing we care.

Supporting and involving residents and families and friends

We welcome friends and families, and always do our best to work alongside them to deliver the best care. We understand the importance of communication, from a formal meeting to a quick hello, and encourage them to be part of the running of our homes. We welcome ideas and feedback, always seeking to improve and we are always here to listen and help.

Good nutrition and positive dining experience

We understand that food is vital to the health and well-being of those we support. Our professionally trained chefs are passionate about creating food that is delicious, nutritious and wholesome, that nourishes the body and soul; and they recognise that we are all different. Therefore our menus are tailored to individual residents’ personal taste, and the dining experience is one of choice: sociable and interactive or quiet and contemplative. Whenever and wherever, food and drink is available for you to enjoy.

Providing the best living environment

‘Home is where love resides, memories are created, friends always belong, and laughter never ends’ and we strive to make our homes comfortable and inviting and a place that everyone can enjoy visiting. They are a place to make friends, enjoy hobbies and try new things whilst socialising, or find solace with places to be quiet and alone, without being lonely.

Our bedrooms are designed to enable residents to create a unique and personal environment tailored to them, full of memories and treasured things for comfort and fulfilment. We aim to create an environment that is welcoming and relaxing with easy navigation, and areas inside and out, that give freedom and independence within a safe space, ensuring that residents feel content and fulfilled, and our staff can thrive.

Facilitating life enrichment

Our people are trained and committed to enriching the lives of all of our residents through stimulating the mind, the body and the soul. Every resident is unique and we support positive well-being through a wide range and choice of events, outings, connections in the community and tailored activities.

We promote social inclusion through engagement with residents/patients whether in their personal space, or in the heart of the service with others, to ensure everyone receives the support that adds enrichment to their life.

Attracting and developing the best people

Great care is delivered by great people and a committed, well-trained staff team requires special aptitudes and skills, along with a caring and inclusive view on life. We are committed to ensuring that all of our teams are recruited for their caring attitude, are well trained and supported, to deliver for our residents. We have clear and comprehensive career development pathways, and skills training to ensure everyone can achieve their aspirations and build on their skillset with our support.

Our foundation is built on amazing people and our focus will always be on attracting, recruiting and retaining the best care givers and support team members, and supporting them to be their best every day.

Quality assurance and continuous quality improvement

We always strive to deliver on the high standards we set ourselves on behalf of our residents and their families, and we constantly monitor, assess and report against those standards throughout the organisation.

Transparency is key as we support each other to deliver those standards expected of us, and every home strives to deliver ongoing improvement, reflecting on performance and lessons learned, to get better every day, through our continuous quality improvement culture.

Edingley Lodge Care Home

I run monthly session with my play group, bits and bobs play group at Edingley lodge and I can honestly say it's the highlight of my month. The staff are always so professional and helpful but always happy to have fun and get involved, encouraging residents to come and join is as well. They have a beautiful take on life here! The residents are always so happy and easy to get along with! They will get involved no matter what we do! They will happily play games with the children, cuddle them, sing, dance, get mucky with messy play and generally just let go and enjoy themselves! This is a reflection of how amazing the relationships are between staff and residents! The home is always so clean and welcoming, it really has an amazing feel to it. There is always something for the residents to do weather that's inside or day trips! It really is an incredible place to visit. I wouldn't hesitate to make this home for myself when the time comes, until then I'll keep waiting to save space for my own parents!! I hope to keep visiting Edingley for a long time to come. Thank you for welcoming and having me.

Weystone Manor Care Home

I recently visited Weystone Manor to deliver some art equipment for their open day, and I came away genuinely impressed.

From the moment I arrived, I was given such a warm welcome and a lovely tour of the home by Ginny Thomas. Everything has been thoughtfully and professionally designed to create a beautiful, luxurious and functional environment, but what stood out most was that it never felt like luxury for luxury's sake. There is a real sense that everything revolves around the residents and helping them live as independently, comfortably and joyfully as possible.

As an artist, I particularly appreciated the stylish interiors and the artwork displayed throughout the home. As a Woking resident, I also loved the thoughtful touches that connect the home to the local community, including lovely photographs of Woking from the past and spaces named after prominent local figures. There are so many lovely spaces, from cosy lounges and elegant dining areas to a hair and nail salon, spa bath and even a private dining room for family celebrations, complete with a mini cinema! I was also impressed by the dedicated dementia-friendly areas, with subtle design cues and prompts that support independence in such a thoughtful way.

The personalised activity programmes, beautiful sensory garden and obvious attention to every detail all reflect a genuinely caring philosophy. It's clear that a huge amount of thought, care and creativity has gone into making Waystone Manor a true home, not a care facility.

It was a pleasure to visit, and I wish everyone involved every success with the opening day and beyond.

Mount Tryon Care Home

As a visiting health professional, I am always impressed by this very clean and well managed home. All the staff I've met have a strong work ethic and good humour.

They run many interesting and unusual activities to keep the residents entertained.
Also, I am always hearing positive feedback about the food; which can be quite rare to hear in other homes!
