Our commitments
At Barchester, not only do we offer great care, but through a sector-leading Care and Life Enrichment Framework, strive to go beyond the ordinary to make life in our homes as enriching and rewarding as possible. Included are seven commitments that guide everything we do, every single day, with each one underpinned by our teams, which are trained to deliver the best care for our residents.

1. Person-centred care
We see each person as an individual, and want to understand and learn about each and every resident to deliver the best possible care. We will seek to understand their history, their life story, and the things they enjoy and are important to them. Residents and their families will always be at the centre of our decision making, working alongside our teams and professionals to optimise individual well-being.
2. Facilitating life enrichment
Life in our homes is about more than just the care needed, so our teams are trained and committed to enriching the lives of all of our residents, through stimulating the mind, the body and the soul. Every resident is unique. From spending time and learning about each and every one, we can support positive wellbeing through a wide range and choice of events, outings, connections in the community and tailored activities.
We promote social inclusion through engagement with residents whether in their personal space, or in the heart of the home with others, using technology and expertise as appropriate, to ensure everyone receives the support that adds enrichment to their life.

3. Supporting and involving residents and families and friends
We support residents to maintain contact with those important to them, and always do our best to work alongside them to deliver the best care and support. This is achieved through great communication, whether it be through meaningful conversations or more structured meetings. We welcome ideas and feedback, so our teams can act and are always seeking to improve the services provided in our homes.
4. Good nutrition and positive dining experience
We understand that food is vital to the health and well-being of those we support. Our professionally trained chefs are passionate about creating food that is delicious, nutritious and wholesome, that nourishes the body and soul; and they recognise that we are all different. Our menus are tailored to individual residents’ personal taste, and the dining experience is one of choice: sociable and interactive or quiet and contemplative. Whenever and wherever, food and drink is available for you to enjoy.

5. Providing the best living environment
Home is where you feel safe and secure enough to be yourself. We strive to make our homes comfortable and familiar. They are a place to make friends, enjoy hobbies and try new things whilst socialising, or find solace with places to be quiet and alone, without being lonely.
We recognise that personal space is important and ensure that bedrooms are unique and personal to you. We aim to create indoor and outdoor environments that are welcoming and relaxing with easy navigation, supporting freedom and independence within a safe space.

6. Our People: Attract, Perform, retain, develop
Great care is delivered by great people and a committed, well trained staff team requires special aptitudes and skills, along with a caring and inclusive view on life. We are committed to ensuring that all of our teams are recruited for their caring attitude, are well trained and supported, to deliver for our residents. We have clear and comprehensive career development pathways, and skills training to ensure everyone can achieve their aspirations and build on their skillset with our support. Our foundation is built on amazing people and our focus will always be on attracting, developing and retaining the best performing care givers and support team members, and supporting them to be their best every day.

7. Quality assurance and continuous quality improvement
We always strive to deliver on the high standards we set ourselves on behalf of our residents and their families, and we constantly monitor, assess and report against those standards throughout the organisation.
Transparency is key as we support each other to deliver those standards expected of us, and every home strives to deliver ongoing improvement, reflecting on performance and lessons learned, to get better every day, through our continuous quality improvement culture.
