What our families say on carehome.co.uk

"My great-grandma was at this beautiful home until she passed. She loved her time at Braeburn Lodge and would often tell all the family how caring and attentive the staff were. She quickly made friends with other residents and said everyone was so friendly. When she passed, the manager was very compassionate and really helped me and my family. Nothing was too much for them at the home, and I'm happy she was able to enjoy her final days there."

"My gran was only there for six weeks before she passed, but the home was excellent. Great staff, clean environment, activities, and good food. Can only recommend 100% Good communications from my initial enquiry to the home manager doing a home visit."

"Both parents were residents at Barchester Braeburn Lodge Care Home over a period of several years. When Dad moved into Memory Lane, the care given to him by the dementia care team was exceptional and he was very happy. Mum was able to visit him whenever she wanted to and also maintain an independent and busy life downstairs with fellow residents. The activities offered were plentiful and varied. Mum always said that Braeburn was her "other home" and the staff and residents were her "other family" and after Dad died, Braeburn became her world. As we all lived a distance away, it was comforting to know that she had 24-hour care and was protected and loved. Every time we visited, we were reassured that she was safe and happy. It was obvious that she was respected by a caring staff and we were happy that all her needs, medical, physical and emotional were covered. When Mum died recently, the comfort offered to us, as a family, from the staff made a sad time more bearable. We shall always be grateful to the Braeburn family."

"My mother has been in Braeburn for ten months. Choosing the latest month is a strange question. I am happy that my mother is being taken care of. There have been issues, but these have been dealt with swiftly and efficiently. By the very nature of the job, no care home, be it private or otherwise, is ever going to achieve perfection. However, Braeburn was my first choice for my mother's care, and I would not want her to be anywhere else."

"My parents moved to Braeburn in November 21; they had a very happy life together there and always respected as a couple. Sadly, my dad died in March, and my mum fell and broke her hip, so quite a lot of trauma, but with those wonderful Braeburn carers, my mum has come through it and lives a happy life feeling cared for and safe. As for me, I adore, respect and am in total awe of all the wonderful Braeburn staff."

"My mum stayed for respite as an urgent admission. I cannot find any faults with the home staff are wonderful, so caring and kind and mum even put weight on during her stay. Highly recommended, more homes need to be like this one."

"I visited my mother today. Despite her advanced Alzheimer's, she was in good spirits and kept saying how happy she was and that she was warm and well-fed. It was lovely to see her so alert, and I am sure that this is a consequence of the attention and care of all the staff. She was clean, smelt lovely, and her room was bright and fresh. The staff are so kind, friendly and caring and the standard of cleanliness is first class. It is also a joy to see the pictures of activities and excursions that are posted on the Braeburn Facebook pages. Thank you to the whole team."

"Both my mum and my dad have been in Braeburn Barchester for sixteen months. The care that they receive from the absolutely wonderful staff is second to none. This week we have really given them some issues, my dad in pain, hospital and not a good diagnosis and then my mum having a fall and off to hospital. Our family know that we could never have dealt with these incidents without our brilliant Braeburn carers. We can't thank them enough."

"Both my mother and father have been residents at Barchester Braeburn Lodge Care Home for the past year. At 95 they were no longer able to manage in their own home. I have nothing but praise for the manager and her superb team. Absolutely everyone deserves praise, the carers are so genuinely caring, knowledgeable, professional and fun. As well as the carers, all the ancillary staff from housekeeping, laundry, maintenance and kitchen contribute enormously to the lovely atmosphere. The rooms are very nice, well decorated and, most importantly, open onto a lovely garden and surrounded by mature trees. Why don't they feature homes like this in TV documentaries and just inform people about the good side of caring!"

"Very good care and excellent food. The facilities are amazing and the carers are excellent. The activities are good, and very welcoming and good choice of food. Very efficient with communication with relatives residents and all staff involved. And I feel very welcome and looked after when I come in."

"I visited an old friend whilst she was in the care home on a respite stay. It was clean, and the layout was very well thought out. On my visit, I saw a baking activity, which the residents were really enjoying. My friend is in the process of thinking about permanent care. I stayed and viewed my friend's lunchtime meal which was chicken casserole and profiteroles for pudding. It looked very nice, and I was offered the chance to have a meal but declined; however, it really did look nice. The home has lots planned over Christmas, which I intend on coming back for."

"My mum has just had a week's respite. She lives with family at the moment, so we are looking to the future. When myself and my brother first visited, we both felt there was a lovely atmosphere, and the layout and rooms are all lovely. What speaks volumes is that the staff we met have been there a long time and really care and were so lovely to Mum. The activities are great, and with the right encouragement, Mum did join in and enjoyed what she did. The food is all home cooked and delicious. Nothing is too much trouble. I also met some lovely residents who were all happy, and many have been there a few years. I would thoroughly recommend the manager and her team, and we will definitely be looking to take Mum back for respite and maybe permanent in the future."

"My experience of the care home is from visiting a resident who was there on a short term respite stay. They were very anxious about staying at the home, but the staff and management made them very comfortable and relaxed. All staff were very good with my friend, who lives with dementia and could be hard at times due to his illness. Nothing was too much problem, and even offered me drinks when I visited. The activities on the day I visited were trailered well for the dementia community, there was a Pat dog, which my friend was very happy to see as he used to look after dogs years ago. I would highly recommend it to anybody looking for care and support. The manager and nurse on the day even joined in with an activity that was being held in their courtyard. Great interaction with the residents and a pleasure to see. My friend has booked again in October, so I will try and pop in again then."

"All staff at Braeburn Lodge, Managers, Administration staff, nurses, carers, cleaners, chefs, laundry and maintenance extended the most wonderful care to our Mum. Their professionalism, their care and the dignity, friendship and love they showed to her were exceptional. Staff were very supportive to us as a family and their sensitivity and thoughtfulness was particularly valued by us in the last days of her life, which made a sad and difficult time both meaningful and a privilege to be part of. There is a resident-focused ethos at Braeburn Lodge and the team is led with great skill. It feels like a very happy place to work and this has a very positive impact on residents and their family and friends. We cannot thank them all enough for the kindness and care shown to our Mum."

"I am so happy that I chose Braeburn Lodge for my mum’s residential care. The care staff and the admin staff have been fabulous in every way and they understand the anxiety of the relatives! I feel that I am welcome to call anytime with worries or questions. My mum is on the dementia floor and is able to join in many activities with the other residents, visit the cafe, go out in the mini-bus and relax in the lovely garden. Her room is fabulous, she feels well cared for and regards the carers as her friends!"

"The staff at Braeburn Lodge are fantastic. They are helpful, friendly and polite. The home itself is welcoming and bright. It has lovely communal areas with well-organised entertainment. All the ground floor rooms have access to beautiful well-maintained garden space. We really cannot thank the staff enough for everything they have done during the Coronavirus Pandemic."

"My husband was a resident in Braeburn Lodge. During his brief stay, he became ill and was moved to the nursing wing. Sadly he died at the beginning of January 2021, but while he was in Braeburn Lodge he received excellent nursing care. The staff were kind and carried out all nursing procedures with professional care and gentleness. He was kept comfortable at all times. The staff were always kind and considerate to me and always supportive."

"My dad had a catastrophic stroke and unable to return home so we made the difficult decision for him to go into a nursing home as he needs 24/7 care. This home is great and dad is cared for in the best possible way, he is treated with the most utmost respect and dignity anyone could wish for. All the nursing staff are great and very knowledgeable. The home itself is very modern, spacious and clean, the stigma of an old care home does not apply here. During Covid, we have still managed to visit dad following strict measures and we are very happy that the home is taking all the best precautions whilst still enabling visitors. I would have no hesitation in recommending this home to anyone who needs a lot of nursing care. 10/10."

"Absolutely wonderful, I came in trepidation. Given warm welcome and have been amazed at the wonderful way in which the carers cared for me, so kind, nothing was too much trouble for them. Food was satisfactory but not the best. 1) As a diabetic, I found desserts could have been more varied. 2) Vegetables often undercooked. But chef made me a delicious Birthday cake, I was so grateful. I am looking forward to returning."

"Since my mother has lived at Braeburn Lodge Care Home, she has begun to live again. The daily activities programme has provided fun and stimulation. The food is outstanding and proves t be a daily highlight. However the kindness, support, generosity and willingness of all staff to 'go the extra mile' is what makes Mum's new care home a safe and supportive environment. A unique place; a gem of a care home."

"Braeburn Lodge and the staff are truly amazing. My mother moved here after 5 years in another care home. I knew straight away this was a good place for her to reside. I wish she had moved sooner. The nursing care is professional and compassionate and outstanding. I am really impressed by the communication between the staff and myself. The home is clean and well maintained. I cannot comment on the activities as mum is not really involved as yet but the programme looks entertaining."

"You now have an amazing team of staff who give a high standard of care to each resident, treating everyone with compassion and dignity. We would highly recommend this care home. The staff go out of their way to provide the personal care that is needed and also to their families. We couldn’t wish for better care for my mum in her final stages of life. We will be coming back to see you all."

"I honestly cannot fault the staff, they truly do an amazing job. The home is caring, clean and welcoming to both residents and family visiting. My nanny was well looked after and happy which was a huge reassurance for the family. It’s not just a job for the staff working there, they care and do such a fab job at making the residents feel loved and happy. Even at the end, the staff were sensitive and respectful, looking after Nanny and us, something I truly appreciate and won’t ever forget. I’m just pleased this is where Nanny got to stay, thank you for making it such a positive experience for her."

"On entering Braeburn Lodge there is a feeling of brightness and activity (and a welcome from the receptionist). My fortnightly visits over 2 1/2 years have included speaking with residents in their rooms. I have been able to notice staff dealing with residents politely and appropriately and observed various ways in which residents interests may be gained (celebration of special days, outings etc). Only occasionally have I heard any complaint about the resident having to wait for attention and this has not been in the recent past."

"Since moving our mother into Braeburn Lodge we have seen a vast improvement in both her health and state of mind. She had had two very difficult years trying to cope with my father who had Dementia and the loss of her eldest along with her own problems. She now smiles again. She has made friends with residents and has several BFFs and has a bond with some of the carers that is unbreakable. There have been a few minor problems but they have been easily rectified."

"All of the staff at Braeburn Lodge are friendly and caring, the majority of them go the extra mile in their care to make sure my Mother-in-law and other residents have well looked after. This includes the Home Manager, Reception and Office staff, Kitchen Staff, Activity Staff, the Unit Manager, Senior Carers, Carers, Cleaners, Gardener and Maintenance staff. I hope I have not left anyone out. The staff appear happier in their work since the arrival of the new Manager and when we visit it feels like one happy and loving family which is great. I know that if my Mother-in-law feels poorly or has a fall that she is in good hands and that the staff on duty will contact us and call for any medical services required. The meals are very varied and the food of good quality and well cooked. My Mother-in-law continues to put on weight with the three good meals a day plus snacks in between and thoroughly enjoys the food. The fixtures and fittings are of good quality and well maintained."

"Having visited residents in many care homes in the area, I was really impressed by Braeburn Lodge. All of my mothers' visitors are saying that they would like to book a place here! Mum has been here for nearly two weeks and says that she has already become very fond of some of her carers and that all of them are very kind to her. The manager has been extremely supportive and helpful. The home offers all sorts of activities (which may not be applicable to mum) and lovely seating areas - not just one lounge with a television on all the time. The home is very clean and attractive, the rooms are light and spacious with many having a door to a patio area. This has been simply wonderful for mum as she loves being able to look out into the attractive garden and watch the birds and squirrels. She says that the food is excellent as well."

"Have experienced other care homes with my mother. She spent the last 5 years of her life in care, so from a personal perspective I can measure how Braeburn equates against other homes. Overall, it fairs well against competitors. It is not the absolute best, but, believe me, there are far worse homes in operation. Braeburn is a well equipped new home that strives to give residents a comfortable life. The staff and carers work hard to provide help and assistance. There are little areas where improvement would be useful but on the whole, a good care home."

They frequently drop what they are doing when requested to attend to his needs and are flexible at all times with a smile. It was necessary to find him a nursing place for his discharge from hospital. The staff at Braeburn Lodge responded swiftly and efficiently and he is well settled. In the past, we always felt the care and facilities were good. However, since the new manager, she has taken the home upwards, to another level of care, compassion and support. "I cannot fault the care that Mum has been given since moving into the dementia unit at Braeburn Lodge. Our first visit convinced us that she would be safe, comfortable and well looked after. Mum is treated as an individual but also encouraged to interact with the staff and other residents. She has been out in the mini-bus on several trips and has been promised she can do activities she used to enjoy ie. gardening when the weather improves. Life has not stopped because Mum has dementia and is in a care home. The rooms are clean, the food is good and the staff really do care. I would recommend Braeburn Lodge to anybody."

"I have now been a resident for 10 months and am very happy with the standard of care I have received. The care assistants work very hard and should receive greater acknowledgement financially. There is wastage of food which could be rectified be serving smaller portions to those who regularly waste food. Sometimes, there seem to be fewer carers on the premises than are needed by the number of residents, particularly at night."

"Since my Mum has been a resident here she has found a new lease of life. She has participated in the entertainment and other social outings where she had very little to do in her own flat. She looks a lot healthier and happier and has begun to put weight on, due to the very good and healthy fresh food they receive daily. I am happy to report that 9 months on - thanks to an excellent new manager and her permanent successor - a very different experience pertains. "My husband has been here since November 2015. It deteriorated from a lovely place for a person with dementia to live in, to a very mediocre and unsatisfactory home. After an interim manager brought it around in the last five months, I no longer worry about out him. The new manager has a great track record of managing local care homes so it has become a lovely place to visit a resident. I am so glad my husband is still there and I love visiting him daily."

"I have lived here now for six weeks and feel very comfortable and secure here. The staff are all caring and the atmosphere is pleasant and welcoming. There is the opportunity to take part in activities and outings are arranged. The food is varied and well prepared and is served in attractive surroundings. The best alternative to living at home."

"My Mother in law was accepted into the Home at short notice for a period of respite following an accident at home. The Manager has been available at short notice if there have been concerns/updates to discuss. It is not always possible to find the nurse on duty when I visit but generally, the care staff will go out of their way to locate the nurse and inform her that I would like to speak with her when she is available. Nearly all of the staff I have encountered in the home have been respectful, caring, friendly and helpful towards my Mother-in-law and indeed ourselves. My Mother-in-law is happy with her respite stay in the home and would be quite happy to stay there permanently if the need arose."

"I broke my right hip on Easter Sunday 16.04.2017 and via treatment at various hospitals, I arrived eventually at Braeburn Lodge for a recuperative holiday April - June 2017. During my stay at Braeburn Lodge, I luxuriated in comfort and care. Sadly, like all things pleasant, it must come to an end. I would certainly recommend Braeburn Lodge for comfort and caring - if their needs were similar to my needs."

"The support and care that we receive from the staff during my father's last days were excellent. We were totally overwhelmed by the depth of feeling that they had for him. Their care and compassion made his passing dignified and relaxed. We could not have asked for better or nicer people to support us and Dad during this time."

"My first impression of Braeburn were warm and welcoming. I could see immediately that no expense had been spared regarding furnishing. The whole atmosphere for me spoke of relaxing, don't worry about anything. That feeling has never gone away and I can go home knowing that my dear husband is in good hands and nothing is too much trouble. The carers are all hard working and will do pretty much everything you could want. I admire them all. Yes it is expensive and in my view worth every penny. I can go home after visiting knowing that my husband is in good hands. Thank you all for everything you do."

"Some staff were not attentive to mums needs (her words). Some of the clients were frightening, sometimes felt frightened."

"Mother was generally well looked after, whilst we were on holiday. The staff welcomed her and made her feel at home and safe. She had been unwell prior to our holiday hence the need for her to stay at Braeburn. She slept well, better than at home and from what we hear joined in with most activities on offer. As discussed with a member of staff minor issues were a choice of food (not always what she liked) and little access to the phone when friends and relatives rang."

"The two weeks I stayed here were very enjoyable. I was made to feel welcome by staff and the other residents. The meals were excellent, my room was comfortable with a lovely garden outlook. The bed was very comfortable. At the beginning of my stay I had a couple of falls and the care I received was excellent, I had banged my head and there was always someone checking in on me for 24 hours to make sure I had not hurt myself (eg. concussion). The entertainment programme was good and I enjoyed the trips out and about. I am looking forward to returning."

"A very appealing and modern environment, easy access round the home and garden. Overall very pleased with my dad's respite stay. Maybe communication between the staff could be improved, for example; information given to one shift was not always passed on the the next shift or management. Also there were times when I was visiting - that my dad was left for up to 20 minutes after asking to use the toilet before assistance came."

"We are three daughters who have recently taken difficult decision to move our mother from independent living into care at Braeburn Lodge. Her room is light, with patio doors to the garden and lovely en-suite facilities. The management have facilitated bringing bits of furniture, hanging pictures, photos and making the room personal and familiar. Crucially they welcomed her small, much loved elderly cat as well. She is really enjoying the food. Most important of all, the staff are without exception superb; caring, thorough, reliable and cheerful. She has settled much better than we feared. We visited a number of homes, and chose with great care. The home is expensive but we believe it offers excellent care, and we have peace of mind knowing that mother is content, safe and enjoying high quality care."

"Mom was reluctant to go into respite but once there she settled ok. Unfortunately she did have a couple of falls whilst there but they called medics and it was due to an infection."

"Mum spent two weeks in respite care and thoroughly enjoyed her "holiday". She will be very happy to go again and said she couldn't fault anything or anybody. Everyone was kind, friendly and caring from the nurses and carers, the chef and the cleaners. She enjoyed the food, the company and the high quality. For me it was peace of mind to know that mum was in safe hands and happy whilst I was on holiday."

"We found the atmosphere welcoming to both of us, home and gardens presented well both inside and out. My husband, who can be very critical, said he enjoyed his stay at Braeburn Lodge. He found the staff friendly, food and comfort good and would be happy to go again. He is already booked in for his next respite stay. It gives me some comfort to know this because of his Alzheimer's dementia makes it impossible for me to carry on caring for him. I could approach Braeburn Lodge with confidence."

"My sister has now been in Braeburn for just over 6 weeks she is much better in herself and has a more relaxed and happy demeanour. The care and attention she is receiving is excellent/exemplary. All the staff, nurses and carers have a great attitude and commitment. The food and diet is also very good."

"i was greeted warmly and shown to a well equipped and beautifully furnished room. Menus were varied and plentiful - soup being a particular favourite. Despite being very busy the staff were helpful and readily available at all times."

"My mum went into Braeburn Lodge for respite while I was on holiday for three weeks. She had never been in a home before and I was dreading it as I thought she would not settle. The first couple of days she struggled and they re-assessed the situation and moved her. She then settled in fine and thought she worked there! She was allowed to do her own thing, pottering around and helping the carers in their jobs. She was well cared for and that's all we could ask for."

"This was mums second respite visit and from walking in mum was made to feel welcomed back. Staff remembered her from her previous visit, making mum feel at home straight away. Unfortunately mum caught the sickness bug that was in the home at the time but was looked after properly and with the dignity needed with the "bugs" affect on her. Thank you Braeburn Deeping St James. Mum is looking forward to seeing you all again soon."

"All the staff make everyone feel welcome, residents and visitors alike. The carers are considerate and work very hard to make a happy and relaxed atmosphere for the residents. The meals are appetising and there is a good choice of menu. Friends and relatives are welcome to join residents for meals."

"From the initial look around to collecting my mother after her respite care, the whole experience was extremely positive. The attention to detail, the quality of the staff and the whole atmosphere of the Braeburn Lodge left me and my mother feeling that she was in a place of real care and safety. This had not always been the case with previous respite homes. The fact that my mother has been recommending Braeburn Lodge to all her friends is probably the highest praise!"

"Everything from the first enquiry was totally professional but in a caring way. Mum was welcomed and made to feel part of the home immediately. All staff were a credit to the home. Mum said the food was excellent!"
