Activities at Marriott House and Lodge Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Milkshake Madness Afternoon

Milkshake Madness Afternoon

On Monday 12th September, Marriott House and Lodge Care Home celebrated National Chocolate Milkshake Day with a Milkshake Madness Afternoon!

The afternoon included making different flavoured chocolate milkshakes and then choosing our favourites. Flavours included milk and white chocolate, along with chocolate mint, caramel and chocolate fudge flavour. The afternoon also included a special game of milkshake-themed countdown.

Theresa Shell, General Manager, said: "This event was very popular with the many residents and staff who took part."

A resident at the home said: "I really enjoyed the whole afternoon; we got to choose the flavours we wanted to try and they were all made for us."

Creative Talks

Creative Talks

Penny from Creative Talks visited the home on Thursday 15th September and gave another amazing talk entitled 'A Journey Down Under'. This talk took a look at the sights, sounds and wildlife of Australia, along with an appreciation of Australian music, sport and famous personalities.

Everyone was transported through time using interactive pictures, video and music! The talk provoked lots of discussion and reminiscence.

The next talk will be on Thursday 6th October at 11am, entitled 'How We Used to Live - Fashion, Food & Fun'. This Talk takes a look at the changes in fashion, food and leisure over the past 50 years.

Fruity Friday

Fruity Friday

On the second Friday of each month, we hold a Fruity Friday event. Staff and residents dress in bright clothing and fruity-themed activities are organised.

This month, a morning of smoothie making and fruit tasting ensued, with the ingredients being decided upon by residents.

The most popular flavours were peach, pear, strawberry, raspberry and banana, which were closely followed by traditional flavours, strawberry and banana.

The afternoon included a fruity-themed quiz and tea party that was enjoyed by many. Residents, staff and visitors' knowledge was tested and the winning team were crowned the ‘Fruity Friday Quiz Champions’.

General Manager, Theresa Shell, said: "This monthly event is always a popular day at Marriott House and Lodge with staff, residents and visitors all getting involved. Nutrition is a very important part of residents' lives and events like this not only encourage residents to enjoy a balanced diet, but also try new things and, most importantly, have some fun."

This event is held on the 2nd Friday of the month and open to everyone. For more information, please contact Marriott House and Lodge on 01243 536652.

Birthday Tea Party

We hold a monthly birthday team party for all residents who celebrate their birthdays during the month. On Friday 17th August, we were entertained by Mitchell Armstrong before singing Happy Birthday to the relevant people and then enjoying tea and cakes.
