Activities at Marriott House and Lodge Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Supporting Elf Day

Supporting Elf Day

Staff donned their best festive fancy dress as they took part in Elf Day – a nationwide fundraising initiative for the Alzheimer’s Society, which took place on Friday 9th December. The afternoon included a special community quiz with an Elf Day theme, and festive refreshments.

Mike Hammer

Mike Hammer

On Wednesday 7th December, we were pleased to have a visit from Mike Hammer who performed his Christmas musical show. Residents, staff and visitors sang along during the afternoon to some Christmas favourites before enjoying some festive refreshments.

Santa's Grotto

Santa's Grotto

We made Christmas that little bit more magical for residents, staff and local children by transforming part of the home into a ‘Santa’s grotto’ during December.

Santa, who was played by one of our volunteers, grew his beard specially for the occasion and gave out gifts to all the children who came along to spend time with him. Several staff also dressed up as elfs to help Santa and make the experience even better for those who visited the home!

Staff and residents at Marriott House and Lodge love celebrating the festive season and were excited about welcoming the local community to join in the fun.

Christmas Fayre

Christmas Fayre

On Tuesday 6th December, Marriott House and Lodge held its annual Christmas Fayre. The afternoon included the grand opening of Santa’s Grotto, gift stalls, homemade produce, refreshments and much more! The Lodge and House residents had been busy making things ready to sell at the Fayre and all proceeds went to the residents' activity fund.

On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month... we remember them

On the 11th November at 11:00am, Marriott House and Lodge remembered those lost in conflict with their annual balloon release.

Residents, staff and visitors stood side-by-side to pay their respects to those lost or injured in conflict around the world. Everyone wrote messages to those who fell in the line of duty, which were attached to red balloons. The balloons were released during the national two minutes silence and allowed some reflection whilst we watched the balloons fly away.

This has become and yearly event; the residents that helped to release the balloons had a connection with the armed forces and some wore their medals with pride.
