Westergate House provides high quality nursing and residential care for older people, including support for those living with dementia in our specialised Memory Lane Community. Our highly skilled and experienced team are committed to providing excellent standards of care and companionship and pride themselves on their ability to adapt to suit the needs of each residents, who are always at the heart of everything we do.

As with any Barchester care home, our high standards are reflected across all aspects of life within the home, including our hospitality, cooking and activities. The home also has a fully equipped minibus to enjoy the local amenities, whether it be the town centre, the sea front, or the beautiful countryside and rolling hills of the Sussex Down.

Our pet friendly home has also been approved by the Cinnamon Trust, the national charity for the elderly and their pets. In recognition of this, we are proud to have been awarded the runners up prize in the Pet Friend Care Home of the Year. We welcome a number of residents moving in along with their pets each year, all of whom we consider to be very much part of family life at Westergate.

Westergate House has a great deal of charm and character, being a Grade II listed building set in sumptuous grounds on the outskirts of the picturesque town of Arundel in West Sussex, next door to Fontwell Race Course. We continue to be part of the local community, providing a safe, secure and happy place for people to live as they wish.

Welcome to the Westergate House website, my name is Paul and I am the General Manager here.

I have over 25 years experience within the healthcare profession, working in the NHS, prior to moving to the private healthcare sector in 1996. Having joined Barchester Healthcare in 2005, I have been the General Manager here at Westergate House for over five years. During this time we have built a strong team that continually strives for excellence and to improve the service we offer to our residents. The quality of the delivery of person centred care is paramount in my philosophy to create a home where I would be happy to be a resident. I feel passionately about Westergate and together with my team, we are committed to making a difference for our residents, supporting individuals in everyday successes.

We never lose sight of the fact that residents don’t live in our work place - we work in their home!

Tracey White

Deputy Manager

My name is Tracey and I have been with Barchester since 2012. Having started as an RGN at Westergate House, I am now the Clinical Deputy Manager of the home.

My role involves leading and supporting our dedicated team of nurses with the provision of excellent quality care to those living at the home. I also assist the General Manager with all other aspects of managing the home.

As a nurse and a manager, I believe that professionalism, kindness and integrity are central to who I am and are also embedded into everything we do here at Westergate.

I am passionate about being able to provide a personalised, caring service to those we support, in order to enhance every aspect of their daily lives.

I love working here at Westergate House – there is never a boring moment! I feel proud to be part of a team that provides a warm, professional service in a caring, comfortable and friendly environment.

My name is Paula and I am the Head of the Frail Elderly Community here at Westergate House. I am a highly skilled General Nurse and my role is to ensure the health, safety and well being of residents and their families and respect residents as individuals in an environment that feels safe and homely. I offer guidance to my team of Nurses, Senior Carers and Carers and always try to maintain a friendly environment. I am responsible for delivering high standards of care by liaising with external professionals, whilst respecting residents' dignity, privacy and wishes. The best thing about Westergate House is that it provides a friendly, welcoming place where resident's, families, visitors and staff feel at home.

My name is Bernice and I am the Head of the Memory Lane Communities here at Westergate House. I have been at Westergate House for over 15 years and a Registered Mental Nurse for 32 years. I have a dedicated team of Nurses and Carers and I share my knowledge and experience with them to enhance the well-being of the residents and to make everyday enjoyable. Westergate House is my home and I could never imagine working anywhere else. I have always wanted to be a nurse and to make a difference, to be part of residents' lives to make them feel safe, happy and secure.

Hi, my name is Philomena, and I am Head of Activities here at Westergate House. Professionally, I am from a police background, however, when I relocated to West Sussex with my family in 2012, I joined the healthcare sector. Working in a care home environment lead to a great opportunity to lead the activities department, where I realised I had found my passion.

Here at Westergate, we are flexible and responsive to residents’ individual lifestyle choices, and we love finding creative ways to enable people to live as full a life as possible. Alicja, Lucia and I, as the activities team, passionately believe that fun and laughter are a key ingredient to enjoying a happy home life, and nothing pleases us more than to see a smile on residents' faces.

No task fazes the boys; they have effective teamwork and heart-warming humour, that sees the jobs being done competently and with a smile.

Pet Dog

Meet Jet, one of our four-legged residents. Jet is a rescue dog from Portsmouth Dog Rescue who knows Westergate as her home. She resides here along with some of the other residents’ pets.
