Activities at Marriott House and Lodge Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Life at Marriott House and Lodge Care Home

Another Fruity Friday!

Another Fruity Friday!

On the second Friday of every month we hold a Fruity Friday event. Staff and residents dress in bright clothing and a fruit0themed activity is organised.

This month’s event took place on Friday 14th October, with a morning of smoothie making and fruit tasting, which was enjoyed by residents, staff and visitors alike. The residents at the home took the lead and decided what went in the smoothies before everyone tasted them. The whole morning provoked lots of discussion about different fruits and vegetables. Amy, our Activities Team Leader, got everyone thinking of different fruits and vegetables for each letter of the alphabet.

Macmillan Coffee Morning

Macmillan Coffee Morning

Residents, staff and visitors at Marriott House and Lodge Care Home held a charity coffee morning on Friday 23rd September to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Our coffee morning was a big success – we managed to raise over £90.00 and, most importantly, everyone had a lot of fun doing it!

The British charity provides financial aid, specialist healthcare services, and all different kinds of support to those living with cancer. The purpose of the coffee morning is to sit down with your friends and family and catch up with a nice cuppa for a good cause. The money raised will help Macmillan make sure no one has to face cancer alone.

Jeans for Genes Day

Jeans for Genes Day

Staff at Marriott House and Lodge Care Home left part of their uniforms at home on Friday 23rd September and put on their jeans. This was all done to support Jeans for Genes Day 2016.

We asked all staff to pay a donation for wearing their jeans to work for the day.

We all inherit a range of talents, skills and personality traits through our genes – they’re part of what makes us who we are. But 1 in 25 children also inherit a genetic disorder that makes their life very difficult. By pulling on a pair of jeans and overdoing it in denim, staff are helping to fund the vital care and support services that transform their lives.

Barchy's Big Breakfast

Barchy's Big Breakfast

Following the success of the Barchy's Big Breakfast during Foundation week, residents requested it as a regular event. This event now takes place on the 3rd Wednesday of the month.

The kitchen whipped up a storm of a breakfast which included croissants, bacon and sausage baps.

Staff and residents joined together for breakfast, which was enjoyed by all that attended.

International Talk Like a Pirate Day

International Talk Like a Pirate Day

All around the world, and even hundreds of miles above it, people celebrated International Talk Like a Pirate Day.

International Talk Like a Pirate Day is the only holiday on the calendar that encourages people to babble like buccaneers for the sheer, anarchic fun of it. It’s been celebrated by millions of people on all seven continents – yes, even in the Antartica – and on the International Space Station!

Staff dressed up as pirates for the day and a themed afternoon of activities ensued, including a treasure chest quiz and pirate games.

Roald Dahl Day

Roald Dahl Day

We celebrated the 100th birthday of cherished children’s author, Roald Dahl, on 13th September 2016, which also happens to be Roald Dahl Day as well.

In remembrance of this great man’s life, we hosted a number of activities in hopes that everyone could feel a little bit of that Roald Dahl magic, including staff dressing up as their favourite Roald Dahl Character, a special themed quiz and an afternoon of Roald Dahl-themed activities.

Roald Dahl’s works encompassed novels, short stories, poetry and screen writing, and are noted for their inventive and playful use of language. Dahl’s most famous works include James and the Giant Peach, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The BFG and Matilda and, collectively, his books have sold over 250 million copies worldwide.
