Activities at Westvale House Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Joanne Sherwood

Activities Coordinator

Hi, I'm Joanne and I'm the Activities Co-ordinator at Westvale House! I joined the team in December 2023 and absolutely love my role. Getting to spend time with our residents every day and getting to know each of them more and more, is such a privilege.

I get to create and tailor our activities to the preferences of each individual resident, making sure they're all doing things they'll absolutely love, and that brings me and the rest of the team so much joy. Making each of their days special is what I believe my job is all about.

Life at Westvale House Care Home

Afternoon tea

At the beginning of the month our Residents and their families enjoyed Afternoon Tea at a local Pub.

Socialising is important for our Residents and staying connected with family and our local community. This provides a sense of belonging for boosting physical and mental health.

Remembering the Queen

During the National period of Mourning we ve spent time reminiscing and celebrating the memory and reign of her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the ll.

Our hearts were heavy following the very sad news of Queen Elizabeth s passing but together we took time to reflect on the reign and extraordinary life of our beloved Queen. We held out own service of mourning to share memories and the Mayor of Warrington joined us .

We signed the Book of Condolences and also created a Memory Tree writing our fondest memories of our late Queen. These memories of her Majesty will be in our hearts forever.

Fun & Games

Fun and games in the garden always means a great time is had by all

We exercised almost without realising it when we played the Parachute game

We are thoroughly enjoying the September sunshine whilst we can.

Creative Design

Here at Westvale House we enjoy Craft sessions, this week we have tried our hand at the Nexus Playboard.

This was a new craft to us and for a lot of our residents but it certainly proved to be very popular and a lot of fun.

This kind of crafting has many benefits such as keeping our fine motor skills on point, testing our stamina and exercising our creative design side and all while keeping the mind and body calm and relaxed

Baking Club

Here at Westvale House we look forward to enjoying the very poplular weekly Baking Club.

We enjoyed a firm favourite this week, Rice Crispy Cakes!

Making old classics always promotes great conversations of the past and a good opportunity for reminiscing.

Musical mystery tour

Our homes had a brilliant time with curator Sarah Deters as she took us on a virtual ‘Music Through the Ages’ tour of St Cecilia’s Hall: Concert Room and Music Museum.

Our residents were thrilled to discover weird and wonderful musical instruments, hear their unusual sounds, and find out how instruments have changed over the last 500 years.

The virtual live event explored the world-renown collection of musical instruments on display at St Cecilia’s Hall, Scotland’s oldest concert hall.
