Activities at Westvale House Care Home
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.
Joanne Sherwood
Hi, I'm Joanne and I'm the Activities Co-ordinator at Westvale House! I joined the team in December 2023 and absolutely love my role. Getting to spend time with our residents every day and getting to know each of them more and more, is such a privilege.
I get to create and tailor our activities to the preferences of each individual resident, making sure they're all doing things they'll absolutely love, and that brings me and the rest of the team so much joy. Making each of their days special is what I believe my job is all about.

Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Westvale House Care Home
Big Jubilee lunch
Staff and residents at Westvale House in old hall Warrington invited family, friends and local community groups to join them to celebrate the Big Jubilee with a tea party on Friday the 3rd June.
General Manager Charlotte Sherrocks said: “We’ve all had such a brilliant time celebrating the Big Jubilee tea party, it has been such fun. Our staff and residents love the Queen and so they were all so excited to take part. It has been a real collaborative process - thinking about how we wanted to celebrate, planning our activities and decorating the home. It was so lovely to be able to invite our friends and family to come and join us for a proper celebration too.”
Floral demonstration
Our homes had a lovely time joining Sue and Nicole from Ferndown Florist for an intriguing flower arrangement workshop in celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
Our residents enjoyed a wonderful virtual demonstration and got inspired to create their own flower posies for our Jubilee displays. Our home will be specially decorated for the upcoming festivities. Stay tuned.
Star of Nimrod
We had a lovely time joining Graham Whitlock for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘The Crystal Palace Chronicles: Star of Nimrod’.
Our residents were thrilled to find out more about the book and the fictional character Joe, who went on a rollercoaster adventure travelling back in time to the heyday of Victorian Crystal Palace.
Everyone had lots of fun during the virtual talk, as Graham took them on a clever and hilarious adventure. A great time was had by all.
World Bee Day
To celebrate world bee day we made honey flowered cupcakes with handmade bee and sunflower toppers.
Garden Club
We have started our veg patch again this year and our residents have been so enthusiastic and engaged with the whole process. We have always got sunflowers growing on which we are planting in the ground on the jubilee weekend.
International Nurses Day
To honour Florence Nightingale we had a go at making the lamp that she was renowned for carrying.
