Activities at Westvale House Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Joanne Sherwood

Activities Coordinator

Hi, I'm Joanne and I'm the Activities Co-ordinator at Westvale House! I joined the team in December 2023 and absolutely love my role. Getting to spend time with our residents every day and getting to know each of them more and more, is such a privilege.

I get to create and tailor our activities to the preferences of each individual resident, making sure they're all doing things they'll absolutely love, and that brings me and the rest of the team so much joy. Making each of their days special is what I believe my job is all about.

Life at Westvale House Care Home

,

Weekly Craft Club

Weekly Craft Club is a popular and sociable session.  Hosted in the bright, sunny and warm conservatory, residents love to be creative especially painting Sun Catchers and Pots. It’s a way to be expressive and has mindfulness qualities. The end results are satisfying and everyone has a huge sense of achievement.

Autumnal and Halloween displays

Here at Westvale House we are busy getting into the spirit of Halloween by creating an autumnal display with painted and carved pumpkins, flowers and wreaths.

International Gin & Tonic day!

We especially organised the themed day to celebrate gins and cocktails in all its majesty. Gin must be considered royalty as goes back to the 1600s!

Foundation donates to local charity

Westvale House care home recently presented Wigan Warriors Community Foundation with a cheque for £500 to towards activity equipment for this charity's project improving the lives of the over 65s.

Coffee and cake at M&S

Our Residents enjoyed going out for Coffee and Cake in late September at our local M&S .  Socialising with others has such benefits including mood improvement, cognition, memory recall and is associated with healthy behaviours.

Macmillan fundraiser

We enjoyed the annual Macmilan Coffee Morning which was a great success.

We had delicious homemade cakes courtesy of our head chef Chris we also had a Raffle.

We would like to say a huge Thank you to St Philips Church, our Residents, their families and staff who helped us to raise money for such a tremendous Charity. We have raised £95.81
