Activities at Westvale House Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Joanne Sherwood

Activities Coordinator

Hi, I'm Joanne and I'm the Activities Co-ordinator at Westvale House! I joined the team in December 2023 and absolutely love my role. Getting to spend time with our residents every day and getting to know each of them more and more, is such a privilege.

I get to create and tailor our activities to the preferences of each individual resident, making sure they're all doing things they'll absolutely love, and that brings me and the rest of the team so much joy. Making each of their days special is what I believe my job is all about.

Life at Westvale House Care Home

Thank You Paramedics

At Westvale House, we're so appreciative of the health care professionals that we work alongside and who support us on a daily basis. They work incredibly hard, and work such long hours that sometimes they just need a coffee and a smile to perk them up.

We love to show our appreciation, so we make sure we offer refreshments whenever we get a visit. This week, these happy paramedics left Westvale with a hot coffee in our Barchester travel mugs, and cake to go!

National Ice Cream Day

Residents across our homes had a fantastic time during a special live virtual event in celebration on National Ice Cream Day. Wall’s team took us on a great journey through history, sharing fascinating details about the brand since its launch in 1922. We learned about major innovations such as the introduction of Mr Whippy, Cornetto, Viennetta, Twister, and Carte d'Or.

Residents were treated to a singalong to Cornetto classic ads, an interactive quiz about fun Wall’s facts and best-of-all, an ice-cream tasting session. It was a delightful experience for everyone, especially our ice-cream lovers.

Nailed It

There's always one thing that's guaranteed to bring a smile to some of our ladies and that's a relaxing pamper session.

A pamper session is so much more than having your nails painted, it's a special individual moment. Pampering isn't only reserved for the ladies though, our gents like having their nails cared for too, but so far none have asked for the polish!

Puppy Love

Last week, our Chef Maureen brought her puppy JJ in to visit the residents, and it was the highlight of Jessie's day! She was over the moon to see JJ, play with him and have a snuggle.

All of us at Westvale are now begging Maureen for more regular visits, as JJ is such a beautiful and content little pooch!

Garden makeover

We love spending time in our garden, it is an environment where our residents and their families can sit, relax and enjoy a variety of exciting gardening activities.

Recently, our wonderful relatives with the help of our residents, have decorated our garden with colourful plants and pots and comfortable furniture, and we are ready to welcome loved ones, entertainers and special guests. With donations from local businesses, our garden is beautifully bright for the summer season! All of us here at Westvale House are so appreciative of the time put in by the families of our residents - it's one big happy home here and this act of kindness has definitely proven that!

Best in the field

This morning we had a visit from Chelsea at Rise for an uplifting sports activity session!

Our residents got involved with soft hockey and balloon tennis, before getting a bit competitive and splitting into teams to see who could score the most points!

In the end it was too close to choose a winner, making everyone victorious. Team Captains Tom and Doreen both got their glory moment and were proud as punch with their trophies

Thanks again to Chelsea at Rise, we had the best time!
