Activities at Westvale House Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Joanne Sherwood

Activities Coordinator

Hi, I'm Joanne and I'm the Activities Co-ordinator at Westvale House! I joined the team in December 2023 and absolutely love my role. Getting to spend time with our residents every day and getting to know each of them more and more, is such a privilege.

I get to create and tailor our activities to the preferences of each individual resident, making sure they're all doing things they'll absolutely love, and that brings me and the rest of the team so much joy. Making each of their days special is what I believe my job is all about.

Life at Westvale House Care Home

Chinese New Year

Residents at Westvale House have enjoyed a taste of China this week from snacks to beer or a shandy. Those who tasted the snacks really enjoyed their afternoon. We also got creative ourselves and made cardboard lanterns and dragons.

Games afternoon

Here at Westvale House we have started a Dominoes Tournament, after such fun was had playing a few games last week. We will be having a few games every Monday afternoon for the next 6 weeks ending in a play off between the residents with the most winning games.

As we have said before dominoes helps keep our minds active and has many cognitive benefits to keep our brain healthy.

Home present cheque to local charity

Westvale house care home in Warrington recently presented East Liverpool Riding School for the Disabled with a cheque for £800. The grant has been awarded by Barchester’s Charitable Foundation, a charity that helps older people and adults with a disability or mental health problems across England, Scotland and Wales by offering grants to help people connect or re-connect with others in their local community.

Creative flair!

Today at Westvale House as Christmas is fast approaching we decided to make our own centre pieces for our tables.  We had so much fun choosing the decorations and sticking them together - without sticking them to ourselves.

We were so busy creating our masterpieces we didn’t miss the music that had stopped playing and yes it was Christmas music.

Festive decorations

Here at Westvale we would like to say a massive Thank-You to Ikea Warrington for their donation of a Christmas tree for outside of our home.

Even though it was a little chilly outside one of our residents braved the cold to decorate the tree, Tony said he likes to be outside and he doesn't mind it being cold.

Merry Christmas to all the team at Ikea from Westvale House we all hope that you have a lovely Christmas.

A delightful afternoon with St Andrews Choir

We love the opportunity to welcome new talent to our home.

We had the pleasure of St Andrews Church Choir singing Christmas Carols.

St Andrews choir has only practised together so we were pleased to have them perform for the first time in front of an audience.

We enjoyed a sing along to some of our residents favourite carols with a song booklet provided by the choir.
