Activities at Westvale House Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Aimee Dyas

Activities Co-Ordinator

Hi, I’m Aimee and I am the Activities Co-ordinator here at Westvale House.

My role is to support Residents well-being, to provide enriching and meaningful activities and promote independence and social engagement.

I joined the team in April 2025 and by far the best part of the role is getting to know our Residents and their families.  They have many stories to share and understanding their individual needs enables me to plan and deliver a tailored activities program that captures and includes everyone in the home.

Prior to joining Westvale I worked in Forensic Mental Health and prior as a Community Support Worker and feel that along with my NVQ Level 3 in Adult Social Care, I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise not only to my role but to contribute to the Barchester whole home approach.

Outside of work, I enjoy regular trips to the cinema with my Fiancée, we adore our six cats and have plenty of cuddles and when time allows we get out and about for long walks.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Christmas Jumper Day for Save the Children

We are helping to make the world a better place by wearing festive jumpers in aid of Save the Children’s annual fundraising event, Christmas Jumper Day.

Our residents were encouraged to borrow or decorate their own special Christmas jumpers and raise awareness for children in need all around the world. Even our furry friends got involved! It was a wonderful day, enjoyed by all.

Christmas Treat Decorating

In preparation for Christmas celebrations, staff and residents at Westvale House decided to have a treat-decorating afternoon, where we all put our own creative twist on biscuits, cookies and two Christmas cakes to share with everybody.

Much to residents’ delight, our team had prepared lots of cupcakes, biscuits and cookies so that residents could not only sample the wares, but have a go at creating and decorating their own with icing, fondant, edible baubles and glitter.

Residents decorated their sweet treats with Christmas-inspired designs ready for the home’s Christmas festivities. Residents had lots of fun piping Christmassy designs on cupcakes and biscuits, creating fondant creatures and characters - everyone loved getting into the festive spirit!

Festive Days Out

Ahead of the Christmas holidays, we’ve organised a trip out and visited a local garden centre! Thank you to Bents Garden & Home in Warrington for welcoming us.

Our residents were filled with joy during their visit and there were smiles and laughter all around. The place was specially decorated with beautiful festive lights, garlands and wreaths.

We’ve enjoyed some hot chocolates, mulled wine and tea and we were able to see the amazing ornaments and decorations and some wonderful Christmas flowers.

We truly enjoyed our day out.

Sunday Brunch

We're very lucky at Westvale House to have a friendly pub right next door! So to make the most of a cosy Sunday, we nipped out for a cup of tea and some brunch at The Maltings.

Our residents Eunice and Marie took a walk round the corner with our carers Jiji and Joy, and together they all had a lovely cup of tea and chat. Sometimes it's the little things that make all the difference, and set them up for a wonderful Sunday! They both had a lovely time and appreciated the one-on-one time.

Dashing through the snow....

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Westvale House care home in Old Hall, Warrington got into the Christmas spirit by joining a festive live virtual experience led by Des and Kelly from Performing Pets to visit a Christmas grotto where they got to meet some adorable reindeer.

Halloween Celebrations

Here at Westvale House, we got into the spooky Halloween spirit of things by creating an autumnal display with painted and carved pumpkins.

We hosted a fun-filled party in the afternoon with delicious Halloween inspired lunch and treats, and themed music!

Some of our residents preferred to paint and decorate pumpkins and to dress up for the occasion, others got involved in themed quizzes and games, and enjoyed watching Halloween films.

We all had a spooktacular time.
