Activities at Westvale House Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Joanne Sherwood

Activities Coordinator

Hi, I'm Joanne and I'm the Activities Co-ordinator at Westvale House! I joined the team in December 2023 and absolutely love my role. Getting to spend time with our residents every day and getting to know each of them more and more, is such a privilege.

I get to create and tailor our activities to the preferences of each individual resident, making sure they're all doing things they'll absolutely love, and that brings me and the rest of the team so much joy. Making each of their days special is what I believe my job is all about.

Fish and chip frenzy!

We had a brilliant day celebrating National Fish and Chip Day today! The team at the home did a fantastic job, boxing up delicious fish, pies and chips for all residents to enjoy.

Our residents enjoyed a lovely day in the sun enjoying the first days of Summer, before taking a much needed fish and chip break, truly making it a day to remember. All generations got involved and, thanks to Head Chef Lesley's talent, truly agreed on the importance of celebrating National Fish and Chip Day!

It was a great day, enjoyed by all.

Singing the day away!

Friend of Westvale, Joe Cockx visited us once again this week! He came prepared for a sing-along, giving us all a great performance of some of our favourites such as Neil Diamond and Neil Sedaka.

The lounge was full and everyone had their hands up for Sweet Caroline, the atmosphere was great and everyone's already asking when Joe is coming back so they can do it all again! Thanks Joe, we can't wait for the next dance opportunity.

Spa fun

Residents at Westvale House care home have enjoyed an afternoon of pampering as they were given a hand and nail therapy session.  The team at the home were on hand to provide the resident centred pamper sessions, with residents enjoying treats such as cakes and refreshments whilst being given manicures and hand treatments.

What’s your favourite colour polish?

Dominoes Competition

Here at Westvale House we have come to an end of our Dominoes competition. A huge Congratulations went to Marie who won the other contestants by a very close final. Each resident won a game so we had an extra game to have play off until Marie put down her last dominoes.

Marie was presented with a trophy #warringtontrophyworld to mark the occasion by Jackie Bray our Home Manager, who also presented the three runners up with a medal.

Congratulations all round to all who took part! Jackie asked "What is the next tournament going to be?" The residents have decided on a Darts Tournament next!

Nutrition and Hydration Week

Today at Westvale House we have made our own smoothies and juices. We have mixed blueberries with bananas, strawberries with bananas, summer fruits and apples.

Then came the taste test, some were nicer then others but overall summer fruits with apples and orange juice became a firm favourite along with the banana and blueberries.

With music playing in the background we had an enjoyable afternoon.

Live entertainment

Westvale House have enjoyed live singing by Joe Cockx - Everyone's Favourite Grandson Joe is popular with our residents and they love to sing along with his songs.

Of course whenever we have a singer the musical instruments and pom poms come out so the residents can get involved.
