Activities at Westvale House Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Aimee Dyas
Hi, I’m Aimee and I am the Activities Co-ordinator here at Westvale House.
My role is to support Residents well-being, to provide enriching and meaningful activities and promote independence and social engagement.
I joined the team in April 2025 and by far the best part of the role is getting to know our Residents and their families. They have many stories to share and understanding their individual needs enables me to plan and deliver a tailored activities program that captures and includes everyone in the home.
Prior to joining Westvale I worked in Forensic Mental Health and prior as a Community Support Worker and feel that along with my NVQ Level 3 in Adult Social Care, I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise not only to my role but to contribute to the Barchester whole home approach.
Outside of work, I enjoy regular trips to the cinema with my Fiancée, we adore our six cats and have plenty of cuddles and when time allows we get out and about for long walks.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Westvale House Care Home

Celebrating 200 Years of Cadbury
Celebrating Dementia Action Week at our care home was truly special.
Our Residents and teams came together for a heart-warming reminiscing activity to share memories and lovely stories.
Thanks to the generous support of Cadbury, we received a delightful surprise – memory bar boxes filled with Dairy Milk bars wrapped in designs reflecting Cadbury rich 200-year history.
We all had a great time while enjoyed some delicious sweet treats.

Westvale Do Wigs
Residents and staff gained some inspiration from watching the famous Dirty Dancing movie, and decided to recreate the iconic wig scene in the hope of bagging themselves their very own Patrick Swayze!
General Manager, Jackie Bray was keen to get in on the action and we think red is definitely her colour!
Joy and laughter filled the air as everyone reacted to the new looks of Residents and staff around the home.

In Green and Gold for St Patrick's Day
What a wonderful day we had at Westvale House celebrating St Patrick's Day!
We had Irish music playing throughout the lounge whilst our lovely residents sang along. We decorated the home in green and gold to mark the occasion, and everyone was in full attire with head boppers and glasses bringing lots of laughter and joy! Our residents shared their knowledge with a quiz and listened to poems from the Emerald Isle.
The festivities continued in the dining room where our hospitality team had made a delicious traditional Irish meal including freshly baked Guinness cake. Everyone had such a wonderful time.

Spring Buds & Blooms!
As we're starting to see peeks of Spring, we wanted to get some flowers up and running, ready for planting when the weather gets a tad warmer!
Some of our ladies got their green fingers at the ready, and planted some bulbs and seeds into pots to get them started. This included some peonies, ranunculus, and some anenomes! Elsie in particular was excited for gardening weather to be back, and can't wait to plant even more outside her bedroom window in our lovely gardens.

Mother's Day Celebrations
Mother's Day celebrations!
Here at Westvale House residents, families and friends enjoyed a very special afternoon tea as the home celebrated Mother's Day.
The homes hospitality team prepared delicious treats for all to enjoy from tasty sandwiches to freshly baked scones and cakes for everyone to enjoy.
Everyone had a lovely afternoon and talk soon led to that time old debate - jam or cream first!
Happy Mother's Day to all our wonderful ladies.

99th Birthday Celebrations with Brownie Group
Westvale House decided to celebrate a resident’s 99th birthday with a twist, by inviting her old Brownie group to join the celebrations. Eunice Stobbie was a Brownie leader for many years at St Marys in Widnes, so to honour her 99th birthday the team at invited along members of her old Brownie troop to come along and celebrate with her.
Some of Eunice’s guests included current Brownie leaders, Helen Wall and Marie Grace, along with past leaders and assistants Gwen Nuttie, Christine O’Sullivan, Christine O’Conner and Chris Hill. Some of the Brownies themselves even came along, as well as Eunice’s son Andy.
Eunice enjoyed her cake and hot beverages with her guests and was showered with lovely gifts and tales of when they all worked together. After flicking through the photo albums and singing some old campfire songs, Eunice renewed her brownie promise and received two new badges to wear with pride. They even brought along a toadstool that Eunice had made for the children in her days as a leader, which she remembered and was absolutely thrilled to see was still being used!
When asked what she thought of the day, Eunice said: “it was such a lovely surprise, I will have a day to remember for a very long time.”
