Activities at Westvale House Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Aimee Dyas
Hi, I’m Aimee and I am the Activities Co-ordinator here at Westvale House.
My role is to support Residents well-being, to provide enriching and meaningful activities and promote independence and social engagement.
I joined the team in April 2025 and by far the best part of the role is getting to know our Residents and their families. They have many stories to share and understanding their individual needs enables me to plan and deliver a tailored activities program that captures and includes everyone in the home.
Prior to joining Westvale I worked in Forensic Mental Health and prior as a Community Support Worker and feel that along with my NVQ Level 3 in Adult Social Care, I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise not only to my role but to contribute to the Barchester whole home approach.
Outside of work, I enjoy regular trips to the cinema with my Fiancée, we adore our six cats and have plenty of cuddles and when time allows we get out and about for long walks.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Westvale House Care Home

Movie Afternoon
We love a movie afternoon! We treated our lounge like a cinema this week and made sure everyone had their snacks, lights were down, and curtains were closed for the day's showing of The Sound Of Music!
The classic story requested by our residents, is all about Maria and her move to take care and be a part of the Von Trapp family. Everyone made sure to sit down and get comfortable to watch the classic. We were so invested, the singing along could be heard down our halls - even the staff joined in!
We're now taking suggestions for our next 'cinema' showing! What would you watch?

40-years Long Service Celebrated
Two Senior Carers at Westvale House in Old Hall, Warrington have both received a prestigious 20 Year Service Award in celebration of working at Barchester Healthcare for 20 years each.
Mariza Dee and Joy Jovinal, now Senior Carers, started at Barchester in October 2003 and have worked with residents and their relatives to ensure that their needs have been met over the years.

Parachute Games
Yesterday we played games in the lounge with a parachute! Our residents had a wonderful time making waves and getting to work together as a team to keep up the items in the middle.
This was something different that our residents loved and have asked to do it again as they enjoyed it so much!

Celebrating Harvest
The brilliant team from CreativeMojo helped us once again to get our crafty ideas down onto paper and together we produced this wonderful piece to celebrate Harvest Festival and the harvest season.
By piecing together images such as sunflowers and fruit and vegetables, we've created a display that truly depicts the autumnal harvest season! Thanks to Yvonne for her wonderful support and work with us again.

A Walk in the Gardens
Our lovely residents got out and about last week to our local garden centre to enjoy the sunshine! We love having our own minibus to be able to take out and about and enjoy days out near or far.
Everyone packed a picnic and were able to make the most of the weather after a stroll around the planters, seeing the seasonal flowers and getting ideas together for our own garden!
A lovely afternoon was had by all and we can't wait to plan our next adventure. Where do you think we should go?

Foodbank Donations
We marked International Day of Charity recently and we enjoyed reminiscing about all of the charities that we had supported over the years and the different things we had done to raise funds.
Our residents also wanted to spread a little happiness, so we decided to start a donation box at Westvale for basic food items and non-perishables, and thanks to our wonderful relatives and visitors' help filling the box we were able to donate this hamper to our local food bank.
There are so many wonderful charities that do such a fantastic work, it was lovely to be able to celebrate all the good things that people do to help others.
