Activities at Westvale House Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Aimee Dyas
Hi, I’m Aimee and I am the Activities Co-ordinator here at Westvale House.
My role is to support Residents well-being, to provide enriching and meaningful activities and promote independence and social engagement.
I joined the team in April 2025 and by far the best part of the role is getting to know our Residents and their families. They have many stories to share and understanding their individual needs enables me to plan and deliver a tailored activities program that captures and includes everyone in the home.
Prior to joining Westvale I worked in Forensic Mental Health and prior as a Community Support Worker and feel that along with my NVQ Level 3 in Adult Social Care, I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise not only to my role but to contribute to the Barchester whole home approach.
Outside of work, I enjoy regular trips to the cinema with my Fiancée, we adore our six cats and have plenty of cuddles and when time allows we get out and about for long walks.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Westvale House Care Home

The Look of Love
Residents at Westvale were in the mood for love as we played our romantic couples matching game.
The game involved pictures of famous people ranging from Elizabeth Taylor to Micky Mouse! The aim of the game was to match the pictures with their romantic significant other.
Our Residents had a lot of fun and were very knowledgeable about affairs of the heart
Memory games improve memory by actively engaging the brain in tasks that require recalling information.

Chinese New Year
We love celebrating Chinese New Year here at Westvale – it’s all about the food!
This year is the year of the snake. Much to the delight of our Residents our wonderful hospitality team put on a delicious spread of Chinese snacks, which of course we washed down with a glass of wine.
Westvale's creative Residents then made Chinese lanterns whilst enjoying the parade on the big TV in the lounge.
We pride ourselves on embracing a wide range of different cultures here at Westvale House and our Residents certainly enjoy trying something new.

Team Work Makes the Dream Work
Recently, we were very kindly donated a piano from a member of the local community and we are over the moon!
It did however come with the challenge of transporting it - but not ones to be defeated we got to work!
After reaching out to our supportive group of friends and family, Andy Stobbie called upon his contacts at FareShare, one of his regular volunteering hotspots who very kindly lent us the use of their tail lift van. Then, with the help of a bit of muscle from more family supporters, we are now the proud owners of a beautiful piano.
Stage tuned over the coming months to see what musical memories this piano will revoke.
Once again, thank you for the generous donation, to the amazingly supportive family and friends of Westvale and to Fareshare for helping us.

National Rubber Duck Day
Here at Westvale House our day went swimmingly as we celebrated National Rubber Duck Day with our very own 'Duck Derby'.
A duck race, usually reserved for warmer days, we improvised and the Activities Team were very resourceful in creating pipe lines for our ducks to travel down.
Everyone had lots of fun, with Residents and family members embracing the experience.
We all love a bit of healthy competition, it was certainly a creative way to work our upper arm muscles and refine our gripping technique.

Walking in a Winter Wonderland
Residents got in the Christmas spirit by wrapping up warm and hopping aboard the minibus to visit Bents Garden Centre in Warrington.
Residents and staff were joined by family and friends and had a brilliant time going up and down the isles taking in all the spectacular themed displays, choosing their favourite decorations and there was even a little surprise when they bumped into Santa along the way!
Activities Co-ordinator Joanne Sherwood, who accompanied Residents on the visit said: “We absolutely love being able to take our Residents out and about, Bents was an easy choice for us, it just has everything! It has been a fantastic day and we’ve all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.”
Tom, Resident at Westvale House Care Home said: “We have all had the most wonderful time visiting Bents – it is amazing how big the place is! So much hard work must go in to creating it. It has made us all feel so Christmassy!”

Jessie's Make a Wish Come True
One of our residents, Jessie, had expressed a desire to visit her childhood home, believing that it had been demolished. Understanding the significance of this request, we were delighted to support Jessie in reconnecting with a place that held such emotional value for her.
As we approached the street, Jessie suddenly recognised the area, and her emotions became palpable. She recalled the games she played as a child and was overwhelmed with happiness and emotion upon seeing her childhood home still standing.
During the visit, Jessie shared fond memories with staff and fellow residents, contributing to a deeper sense of community.
This visit with Jessie is a powerful reminder of the impact of person-centred care and how important it is to support our residents in living fulfilling, meaningful lives.
At Barchester, we continue to uphold these values, ensuring that every resident's wish, memories, and individuality are always respected and celebrated.
