Activities at Mount Tryon Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Annmarie Scourfield

Activities Coordinator

Hi, My name is Annmarie and I am the Lead Activities Coordinator here at Mount Tryon Care Home. I am passionate about supporting our residents and supporting them to take part in person centered activities. It is important to me that we are encouraging our residents to do the things they enjoy and build a happy, sociable environment for them.

Outdoor Performers!

Today we had a fabulous time being entertained by Arts on Call who performed in the garden

Our residents joined in the singing and there was plenty of foot tapping!

Birthday celebrations!

It was one of our residents birthday this week. Her family took her out for a lovely meal and our staff made sure the celebrations carried on upon her return.

Fine Dining

At Mount Tryon, we understand the importance of mealtimes and how they should be an experience for all residents to enjoy. We aim to create restaurant style quality food while still ensuring that residents' nutritional needs are met. On Wednesday 9th June, the residents were particularly fond of the smoked salmon starter.

Fish & Chip Day

On Friday 4th June, the residents decided they would like to take part in National Fish and Chip Day. Here is Brian, one of many residents, enjoying fish and chips from Watcombe Fish & Chip Shop, Fore street, Torquay. Kris and Claire kindly gave us a special rate.

World Health Day

7th April each year marks the celebration of World Health Day. From its inception at the First Health Assembly in 1948 and since taking effect in 1950, the celebration has aimed to create awareness of a specific health theme to highlight a priority area of concern for the World Health Organization.

Over the past 50 years, this has brought to light important health issues, such as mental health, maternal and child care, and climate change. The celebration is marked by activities which extend beyond the day itself and serves as an opportunity to focus worldwide attention on these important aspects of global health.

With this in mind, we chose to present a fruit platter to the residents to inspire talk about the benefits of healthy eating and trying new fruits that they may not think of eating. It was well received and proved to be a good topic. As people grow older, their tastes change, so trying out new flavours and textures was a very enjoyable experience.

Writing Practice

Our lovely ladies and gentlemen don’t have much call for writing, so we thought we would try some one-one-one writing sessions with them.

We gave them words to write down and sentences to copy. This lady, from Penny Lane, gave us some words she wanted to write down, so we wrote them out for her and she copied them. It was very refreshing to see her take such an interest in something we all take for granted.
