Activities at Mount Tryon Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Life at Mount Tryon Care Home

A Taste of the Ocean

As Mount Tryon is by the sea, we decided to bring some of the sea to our residents by having a seafood feast. We had a lovely platter of crab, mussels, prawns and langoustines.

World Chocolate Day

Mount Tryon celebrated World Chocolate Day by bringing everything Wonka to our home. The lounge was turned into a chocolate factory. For those residents that were unable to join us, we took the magic to them.

Staff dressed as Oompa Loompas and even Wilma Wonka arrived to enjoy the fun with our residents. We transformed our doorway into Wonka Land and we had a chocolate fountain where the residents could coat marshmallows, strawberries and biscuits with delicious melted chocolate.

Residents went away feeling all chocolatey pleased!

Cream Tea Day

Residents and staff at Mount Tryon celebrated National Cream Tea Day. We held a poll on whether it was cream or jam first and, in true Devon fashion, it’s cream first. Liz and Dorothy enjoyed their scone with a glass of Prosecco.

Beside the Seaside

Residents wanted to go on a minibus trip to the seaside, but due to current restrictions, they knew it wouldn’t be possible, so we decided to bring the seaside to Mount Tryon.

We decorated the garden with garlands and filled the large inflatable pool. We had a sandpit with buckets, spades and seashells. We put rubber ducks in the pool and used fishing nets. Staff bought in their inflatables, including a large unicorn, a flip-flop, shark balls and rings.

Residents and staff dressed in beach wear and our kitchen staff lit the BBQ, serving burgers, hotdogs and our usual fish and chips.

During the week residents and the activity staff made an ice cream cart. We downloaded the ice cream music tone and went around the home serving ice-creams and lollies. This was very well received.

National Biscuit Day

We all had a great time at Mount Tryon on National Biscuit Day. Residents and staff enjoyed the wide selection of biscuits on offer, even the homemade ones we attempted. Brian commented how he hadn’t had a Garibaldi in a long time and Mo enjoyed a shortbread biscuit mixed with a little cream.

Nurses' Day

Coinciding with the birth date of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, International Nurses Day, held on Tuesday 12th May, is a day to celebrate nurses and care staff around the world. Residents and staff at Mount Tryon, were happy to get involved by hosting a much-deserved celebration.
