Our Team

Justine Thelwell

General Manager

Hi, my name is Justine and I am the General Manager here at Mount Tryon. I hope you find everything you're looking for on our website.

Before Barchester, I worked as a Regional Support Manager and, prior to that, as a Senior Clinical Facilitator for a care operator called Brighterkind. Going even further back, I worked as a Clinical Care Manager for Elizabeth Finn Homes in Exeter, where I gained all of my care home experience after leaving the hospital setting.

From January 2004 until May 2007, I managed the Cromie ward at Torbay Hospital, specialising in urology and fast track surgery and, for the previous 10 years, I worked in London at the prestigious King Edward VII Private Hospital, where I rose from a Junior Staff Nurse to Ward Manager before I relocated to Devon. During my time there, I had the honour of nursing the Queen Mother and all members of the British and European Royal Family.

Barbara Evans

Deputy Manager

Hello, I’m Barbara and I’ve been married to my husband, David, for over 30 years. We have 3 children who all live and work in Torbay, and they have gifted me with 3 granddaughters. Family is very important to me and I hope to bring my knowledge, caring attitude and empathy to this role. In my spare time, I read, cook, bake, swim and I love knitting baby clothes.

I have been a trained nurse for over 30 years and worked in both the NHS and the private sectors across the country. Following a period of managing care homes, I found that I was missing the resident contact and was given the opportunity to work at Mount Tryon in Torquay.

Rebecca Turner

Activities Coordinator

I have previously enjoyed a position organising activities for a substance abuse charity, where I saw the valuable impact of having a full and active life, and what a drastic effect that can have on a person's health and progress. I studied Psychology at university and, following that, I studied Art in Plymouth.

I am an avid fan of theatre and all performing arts, from musicals to live orchestration, and I am actively involved in the tech crew of local theatre. I chose to take a post as Activities Coordinator to combine my love of working with people and my interest in activities and events.

I am always up for trying something new; my personal hobbies range from kickboxing to playing the oboe. I aim to give every resident access to whatever activities/facilities they desire, inside and outside the home.

Everyone working at Mount Tryon is dedicated to ensuring that those we support can live their lives too the fullest. For some, it is simply support with transport to a club they’ve been part of for years, and for others, it can be helping them experience new things – whatever it is, we’ll give it a go!

I am always looking for new ideas and activities for people to try, so if you have any thoughts, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
