Activities at Lancaster Grange Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Life at Lancaster Grange Care Home

Macmillan Coffee Morning

This morning at Lancaster Grange we held our own Macmillan Coffee Morning.

The first Macmillan Coffee Morning happened way back in 1990. It was a rather small affair with a simple idea: guests would gather over coffee and donate the cost of their cuppa to Macmillan in the process. It was so effective, Macmillan did it again the next year – only this time nationally. Since then, Coffee Morning has raised over £290 million for Macmillan, funding vital support for people living with cancer.

Residents, families and other members of our local community enjoyed tea and cake, as well as games of musical bingo. We also welcomed Minister Peter Bates and his wife Kathy Bates from Balderton Methodist Church.

Harvest Festival begins

We held a wonderful Harvest Festival service here at Lancaster Grange. We all came together to give thanks, we held our service at our Harvest begins in the Home table-display which is on display in our reception area for residents, staff and visiting professionals to enjoy.

We sang traditional hymns, read poems and listened to prayers from one another, a real sense of community. We dedicated a special prayer for our late Queen Elizabeth II

Remembering the Queen

During the national period of mourning, we’ve spent time reminiscing and celebrating the memory and reign of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Our hearts were heavy following the very sad news of Queen Elizabeth’s passing, but together we took some time to reflect on the reign and extraordinary life of our beloved Queen. We held our own mourning & songs of praise service to share memories of Her Majesty.  We reminisced about brighter times and our spectacular Jubilee celebrations here at Lancaster Grange.

We had a discussion about the amazing achievements and milestones of the Queen, as well as, her hobbies, interests and inspirational reign.  in loving memory of the Queen, we created our own Memorial area with photos of the Queen and a book of condolence which staff, residents, families and friends could visit anytime.

The Mayor of Newark has also visited our residents here at Lancaster Grange to offer support and time to reflect.  We ended the day yesterday with a reflection & reminiscing evening with marmalade sandwiches & sherry.  We will keep the lovely memories of Queen Elizabeth II in our hearts forever.

Beautiful bouquets

Our homes had a fantastic time joining members of the Wallace Collection for an amazing sensory session.

During the live virtual experience, our residents explored one of the museum’s most beautiful Dutch flower paintings and learnt new drawing techniques.

We cannot wait to put our creative skills to a test and produce beautiful paintings of our own.

Everyone enjoyed the lovely talk, we all had lots of fun and it’s given us plenty of ideas.

Alzheimer's Awareness Week

Memory lane meaningful moments at Lancaster Grange. Over the past week we have enjoyed a variety of activities on our Memory Lane Community - Baking, Book club, Sensory activities, quiz time & lots of reminiscence.   We enjoyed a wonderful tea party yesterday morning as part of the Alzheimer's awareness week.  We read together and recreated Alice in Wonderland, which evoked many childhood memories. Our residential community yesterday held detailed talks and discussions provided by The Alzheimer's Society.  We learnt while raising awareness. Our residents & visitors were happy to learn & this proved to be a very valuable & successful afternoon.

Creative Paths

Yesterday morning our residents had the pleasure of welcoming Chris from Creative Paths CIC.  This morning's watercolour workshop was held by Chris & we took inspiration from Vincent Van Gogh’s Sunflowers. We have responded to many needs on this marvellous course & we are looking forward to Autumn.
