Activities at Lancaster Grange Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.
Charlotte Thompson
We would like to introduce to you our Senior Activities Coordinator, Charlotte Thompson. Charlotte has worked at Barchester since 2015 and prides herself on delivering a person centred approach, valuing equality, diversity & offering tailored activities. Charlotte joined the team at Tennyson Wharf in October 2022 before moving back to us here at Lancaster Grange in January 2023.
Charlotte is pleased to be welcoming families and volunteers back into the home. Charlotte is a senior activities coordinator and enjoys supporting other homes in our region as part of her job role.

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Lancaster Grange Care Home
Celebrating National Cream Tea
A wonderful day at Lancaster Grange as we celebrated National Cream Day & held our Dementia Friendly Coffee Morning. We had the pleasure of welcoming Tennyson Wharf Care Home - Barchester Healthcare into our home.
It was so nice to see our homes meet again, our residents formed friendships during their last meeting and yesterday was just as enjoyable holding meaningful conversations, social interaction & making memories together
Enjoying a beach day
We had fun reminiscing in the sand building sand castles, and enjoying the glorious sunshine. An ice cream van arrived at 11am to invite all residents to sample a traditional ice cream. Our residents within our home or residents who choose not to attend enjoyed ice creams in the comfort of their rooms. Our Administration & housekeeping teams jumped on board, helping our care team while providing a whole home approach meeting individual residents' needs. A lovely morning here at Lancaster Grange.
Visiting Gamston Airport
A lovely morning spent at Gamston Airport, visiting a place very close to home for one of our residents Keith. We enjoyed coffee, sat in the designated viewing area to watch many planes taking off & landing at the airport. One plane was leaving for Italy .
Opera performance
Our homes had a fabulous time with the talented soprano Astrid Joos from Street Theatre. Astrid spoke about a selection of famous operas and our residents were treated to performances of wonderful arias from operas well-known to all, such as ‘Giuditta’, ‘Don Giovanni’ and ‘Le Nozze di Figaro’.
It was a lovely experience, truly enjoyed by all.
Dr Tim Howard discusses book
Residents across our homes had a lovely time joining Dr Tim Howard, 4th generation GP, whose whole life has been about patient care, for an exciting virtual event to discuss his novel ‘Let’s Kill All The Lawyers’.
The novel is a medical fiction thriller that explores the impact of life and death events, mistakes and forgiveness, and the impact of law and justice on the day- to-day lives of ordinary people doing their best in difficult circumstances.
Residents had the chance to ask their own questions once the discussion was over and a great time was had by all.
Virtual book event
Residents across our services had a lovely time joining Daniel Snowman, for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘Just Passing Through’.
Author of over a dozen books, Daniel Snowman’s long and active life has led him to interact in countless ways with the wider world and with some of its most famous inhabitants. His memoir evokes these experiences via a series of vivid literary vignettes.
Residents across the homes found the talk very intriguing and informative, and were happy to learn more about Daniel’s experiences around the world. Book club corner is part of our varied life enrichment programme. A great time was had by all.
