Activities at Lancaster Grange Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.
Charlotte Thompson
We would like to introduce to you our Senior Activities Coordinator, Charlotte Thompson. Charlotte has worked at Barchester since 2015 and prides herself on delivering a person centred approach, valuing equality, diversity & offering tailored activities. Charlotte joined the team at Tennyson Wharf in October 2022 before moving back to us here at Lancaster Grange in January 2023.
Charlotte is pleased to be welcoming families and volunteers back into the home. Charlotte is a senior activities coordinator and enjoys supporting other homes in our region as part of her job role.

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Lancaster Grange Care Home
Ferndown florist demo
Our homes had a lovely time joining Sue and Nicole from Ferndown Florist for an intriguing flower arrangement workshop in celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
Our residents enjoyed a wonderful virtual demonstration and got inspired to create their own flower posies for our Jubilee displays. Our home will be specially decorated for the upcoming festivities. Stay tuned.
Lambs visiting Lancaster Grange, Etty & Betty
Our residents at Lancaster Grange excitedly welcomed Sara from Alfie The Therapy Horse yesterday afternoon. This visit made it possible for us to meet Betty and Etty, her baby Lambs. What a wonderful sensory experience for our residents all around our home. Sara gave interesting information to our residents and visiting families outdoors, all about Etty & Betty. We then took a tour of our home, visiting eagerly awaiting residents, in lounges and individual bedrooms. We certainly captured meaningful moments. What a lovely way to spend Bank Holiday Monday.
Royal Jubilee Reminiscence from Creative Paths
This afternoon, our residents had the pleasure to have Chris with us from Creative Paths CIC to offer a wonderful Jubilee reminiscence session. A superb afternoon of social engagement, stimulating conversations and evoking many memories. Thank you Chris for another successful afternoon.
Time for a cuppa coffee morning
This morning we had a great time in our sunny gardens of Lancaster Grange. Sharing a cup of tea and a slice of cake is a fantastic way to bring people together, so we hosted a “Time for a Cuppa” coffee morning to support families facing dementia. We had a wonderful donation of cakes from Caroline at Manor Farm Tea Shoppe It really made our morning special. Thank you to all families and community guests for supporting the morning.
Book corner with Graham Whitlock
We had a lovely time joining Graham Whitlock for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘The Crystal Palace Chronicles: Star of Nimrod’.
Our residents were thrilled to find out more about the book and the fictional character Joe, who went on a rollercoaster adventure travelling back in time to the heyday of Victorian Crystal Palace.
Everyone had lots of fun during the virtual talk, as Graham took them on a clever and hilarious adventure. A great time was had by all.
Book corner with Henry Slator
We had a lovely time joining Henry Slator for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘Conversations at the Pond’.
Henry had an unusual writing journey, which many of our residents found inspiring, he underwent chemotherapy in early 2020, which allowed him to rediscover his light-hearted outlook on life by imagining conversations with creatures in and around his large garden pond and adding buckets of fun.
The entertaining Conversations at the Pond, with its mass of colourful illustrations, took our residents along his journey, they felt inspired, cheered and loved hearing all about Henry’s experiences.
