Activities at Kingfisher Lodge Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Life at Kingfisher Lodge Care Home

Chinese New Year Celebrations

We celebrated the Chinese New Year with decorations, lucky red envelopes, filled with a treat and a poem or saying. All  items were made by the residents on our arts and craft afternoons. We also enjoyed fortune cookies and spring rolls with chili and hoisin sauces to try. Everyone enjoyed the food and we all had a fun afternoon.

Long Service Award

Lin Fry, one of our senior carers celebrated her 20th year anniversary with Barchester Healthcare. She started her career in Bloomfield Barchesters care home in Paulton and moved over to Kingfisher lodge not long after we opened in 2012. We kept the celebrations a secret until she came off her lunch on 11th of January, to a room full of people and decorations.

She was extremely shocked and didn’t have a clue. To celebrate we made her a cake, had non-alcoholic wine, sang congratulations and for she’s a golly good fellow, with the help of the residents. Lots of staff came in especially to celebrate and eat cake with us. Barchester generously presented her with a £250.00 pound gift voucher and she had lots of presents and flowers from the staff.

A well-deserved day celebrating to a fabulous caring member of staff at Kingfisher lodge.

Christmas Tree Festival

Residents enjoyed a trip to St Johns Church in Keynsham to see the Christmas tree festival. A whole church full of Christmas trees decorated by local schools, shops and charities. We all loved it so much we have put our names down to enter next year. Voting for your favourite was great fun too.

A lovely hot chocolate was enjoyed on the cold windy and rainy afternoon.

Decorating Wreaths

We had a lovely afternoon decorating wreaths to display around the home, lots of fun and lots of people admiring them. We also enjoyed mince pies and hot coffee.

Local School Visited Kingfisher Lodge

We held an intergenerational session with our local school, Saltford Primary, they visit us once a month to join in activities with our residents, always a happy and rewarding afternoon to be a part of. The afternoon finishes with chocolate and beverages for all.

Zoo Lab

We enjoyed a visit from Zoo lab, which went down so well with our memory lane residents, who weren't scared of the animals. We had rats, guinea pigs ,small snakes and a large snail.
