Activities at Kingfisher Lodge Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Life at Kingfisher Lodge Care Home

Easter Church Service

At Kingfisher lodge, we take some residents to a dementia friendly church service every month, also the local church come in to do a service in our home , this has been missed terribly by our residents.

So every Sunday we steam live the church of England church services from our I pad and this is enjoyed by lots of our residents.

Easter at Kingfisher Lodge

Easter at Kingfisher lodge this year was probably the hardest one we have had, without the hassle and bustle of all the families and children coming in to enjoy the visit from the Easter bunny and hunting for hidden eggs.

This year we still heard the bounce from the Easter bunny up and down the corridors, giving out Easter eggs or presents to every resident.

We were lucky enough to enjoy the wonderful weather too and spend the afternoon in the garden with our Easter quiz and arts and craft daffodil making.

A Kind Donation

We were so overwhelmed by the surprise visit from an employee from Iceland in Kingswood called Daniel. His grandmother is living here with us at Kingfisher Lodge. Iceland had some Easter eggs left on their shelves after the Easter holidays and generously donated them to us to share between our staff for the recognition of their hard work. Every member of staff over the few days after were eating chocolate on their tea breaks. Thank you Iceland Kingswood!

Do the Test - Go for It!

We are very proud to have our own actress living with us at Kingfisher Lodge—she has even won her own Oscar!

She was in a short film featuring adults with learning disabilities called 'Do the Test - Go for It', about the importance of breast screening and showing what is involved.

Well done to Stella, Claire, Diane, Kelly and Karen from Hillsborough House - Freeways who all took part in the video.

We had a party to celebrate, where we had all the people involved with the film attend here at Kingfisher lodge.

The film is being used in local doctors, to help others not to be scared. You can watch the full film here.

Snakes and Ladders Game

Saltford school children come in each month to visit us. This month they came along and had a game of snakes and ladders. Firstly they made the counters from plastic cups and decorated with our arts and craft items, then played the game, everyone loved this.

Arts and Craft Afternoon

Saturday afternoons are now our arts and craft afternoons and we have a poster to advertise this around out home to encourage residents to come along. Last Saturday we did  bottle light crafts, which everyone really enjoyed, creating a light to be able to take and display in their own room.
