Activities at Hunters Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Ben Sandall

Activities Coordinator

Hello I am Ben and I am the Activities Coordinator at Hunters.  I started working at Hunters as part of the hospitality team, but when a vacancy came up on the activities team I jumped at the opportunity.  I have seen how important a varied activities programme is and the team ensure we offer something for everyone including regular past times.

Visit to the Ice Cream Factory

At Hunters one of our favorite treats is to take a trip over Minchinhampton common to enjoy a delicious ice cream from Winstones. The only hard part is deciding what flavour to have with so many on offer.  For the adventurous there is rum and raisin or banoffee and for the traditionalist good old vanilla.  Despite the drizzly weather everyone left with a smile on their face.

Pianist Plays Residents' Requests

It has been a very special week with activities returning and today we welcomed back pianist Kieran Pocock to entertain us all with a mix of classical, songs from the musicals and old time hits.  As always Kieran proved to be really popular with the residents giving requests for their favorite songs.

All About You

This morning we have visited our Memory Lane Community with the ‘All About You’ activities trolley.  The trolley consists of a variety of different activities for the Resident to pick and choose what they wish including activities such as water painting, jigsaws, Connect 4 poetry and nature books. Going for a walk together is also offered and some Residents choose other activities which are not on the trolley but in our activities hub such as, one lady enjoys the robotic cat which gives her an opportunity to reminisce.  The popular choices today were Connect 4 and Puzzles.

Mayhem Returns!

Hunters residents were delighted to welcome back Mayhem our PAT dog.  Mayhem is now 15 which is over 80 years old in human years.  Before lockdown Mayhem had been visiting Hunters with her owner Caroline for over 4 years.  We have missed their visits so much over the past year.  There were plenty of treats and Mayhem loved the fuss.

Woodland Trail

Residents spent a creative afternoon painting the fairy houses for Hunters woodland walkway. It was really interesting picking the colours and comparing differences in taste.  As usual there was a lovely sociable atmosphere with fun had by all.  The trail is an exciting project and we are excited to see this begin.

Day of Celebrations

Today we have had lots to celebrate here at Hunters. The celebrations began with International Nurses Day.  We are so grateful to all our wonderful Nurses who give so much dedication and care to all our Residents. Residents raised a glass of Prosecco in honour of our Nurses and all shared in a slice of the cake!

We then celebrated our Employee of the Month from our Housekeeping Team, Staff who go above and beyond to deliver an excellent service to our Residents. Finally, we also celebrated two Birthdays today, one of our Staff and a Resident of Memory Lane who has celebrated with a family member today.
