Activities at Hunters Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Ben Sandall

Activities Coordinator

Hello I am Ben and I am the Activities Coordinator at Hunters.  I started working at Hunters as part of the hospitality team, but when a vacancy came up on the activities team I jumped at the opportunity.  I have seen how important a varied activities programme is and the team ensure we offer something for everyone including regular past times.

Spick and Span

Behind the scenes here at Hunters we have a dedicated Housekeeping and Laundry Team. Zoe, Jerry, Monica, Callum and Mayuree all work together to keep the home spick and span and safe for everyone. In laundry there is an ingenious tagging system which makes each residents clothes discreetly identifiable with a tiny colour coded plastic button which saves endless time in identifying everyone’s clothes. Just as importantly are the lasting and supportive relationships all of our staff make with the residents here. Housekeeping staff find the time to go about their jobs making time for the residents with a friendly smile or word, helping wherever they can.

Harvesting Crops

We have been busy at Hunters harvesting some of the crops from our vegetable garden. The residents have got a real sense of satisfaction sowing everything from seed and growing their own food. Through the summer we have been picking fresh vegetables and salad to go to the kitchen to be freshly prepared and added to the menu.

Bringing Magic to Hunters

Hunters are very fortunate to not only have a fixed magic table but also a mobile magic table for room visits. The residents love to join in with games which are especially designed to stimulate mentally, socially and physically. The table is really versatile and can project images onto walls, ceilings, beds, floors and the more conventional table. It was great fun to watch the residents looking at fish swimming around on their bedroom carpets and using some imagination to pretend they were paddling in a pool of warm water along with the fish.

The Good Life

The Good Life comes to Hunters. Well it might not be quite self-sufficiency but the residents have had a huge amount of pleasure and satisfaction starting their own vegetable garden. The project started in May with some seed planting and has now reached the stage where we are starting to harvest our own produce and you can really taste the difference. Everything we grow will go to the kitchen to be incorporated into the daily menu and you can’t get fresher than just pulled from the ground.

Tak Awarded Employee of the Month

Congratulations to Tak Wong from the catering team at Hunters who has been named as our Employee of the Month. Tak is a real team player ready to step up and help out wherever he can. Tak is cheerful and helpful with staff and residents alike, well done from us all at Hunters for being named Employee of the Month.

Alfresco Crossword Club

Crossword Club was alfresco at Hunters. In this glorious weather we took the opportunity to take one of our regular activities outside in the fresh air. During the heat wave we have been taking precautions to keep everyone cool and safe and most importantly hydrated. We are lucky that during the morning our courtyard is shaded and cool and this morning there was a lovely light breeze to cool everyone down, which was much better than being inside. Staff are always on hand to keep an eye on everyone, with extra fans and air conditioning positioned around the home and cool drinks always available throughout the day and night to ensure everyone takes on enough fluid. So the message from the residents at Hunters is enjoy the sunshine but stay safe, wear a hat, use sunscreen and drink plenty.
