Activities at Friston House Care Home

Our activity coordinators are constantly working to stimulate our residents both mentally and physically by organising group and individual activities for every one within the home to participate in. We have regular outings in our mini bus to various attractions within the area and in the summer we like to take our residents to the seaside, where they can enjoy fish and chips by the beach. Our activity programme is just one of the important aspects of the care home and we try our best to arrange the activities that our residents will enjoy.

David Johnson

Head of Activities

I am David, I have been working at Friston House since December of 2023.

I have a background in the visitor attraction sector as an events and activities manager, working with families to create engaging, fun activities that result in long-lasting memories. It is my belief that care home activities should be just as fun, engaging, inclusive to all and worthwhile. Either as a group, self-led or on a one-to-one basis.

Beetle Drive

Residents on Nightingale Walk have recently decided to start up playing a game from their childhood called Beetle drive, this is a game of pure luck in which you have to roll the dice to get the correct numbers to make a whole beetle. Residents came up with the idea themselves and were so happy when we played it.

Music and Movement with Oomph

Recently we were delighted to see there was a live music performance by Alan starting on Oomph on Demand platform, our residents on Phoenix Rise loved watching Alan sing and were even able to send in requests via the chat feature.

One of our ladies requested some Jim Reeves and upon Alan playing this reminisced on doing the waltz with her late husband which she loved!

,

Armchair Exercise

We have enjoyed another fun week here at Friston House, taking part in a variety of Oomph activities and live events. Our favourite activity of the week though was definitely our armchair exercise class on Tuesday!

,

Musical Memories

Another lovely afternoon taking part in ‘Musical Memories’ Armchair Exercise with Karen Buckingham!
Residents got their arms and legs moving to some of their favourite music and had a laugh with their friends!

Remembrance Day

We have been remembering those who lost their lives in the war, through music, making poppies and reminiscing on the war. We decorated the home using our poppies and at 11am we took part in the two minute silence then watched a short service held in London on the television.

Punjabi Party

We hosted a Punjabi Party, Several of our staff dressed in their traditional Indian clothes and put on a dancing show for the residents to traditional Indian music.

Our chef Abin cooked our residents and staff some wonderful curries, samosas and vegetable pakoras. They were absolutely delicious.
