Activities at Friston House Care Home

Our activity coordinators are constantly working to stimulate our residents both mentally and physically by organising group and individual activities for every one within the home to participate in. We have regular outings in our mini bus to various attractions within the area and in the summer we like to take our residents to the seaside, where they can enjoy fish and chips by the beach. Our activity programme is just one of the important aspects of the care home and we try our best to arrange the activities that our residents will enjoy.

David Johnson

Head of Activities

I am David, I have been working at Friston House since December of 2023.

I have a background in the visitor attraction sector as an events and activities manager, working with families to create engaging, fun activities that result in long-lasting memories. It is my belief that care home activities should be just as fun, engaging, inclusive to all and worthwhile. Either as a group, self-led or on a one-to-one basis.

Life at Friston House Care Home

,

Edinburgh International Festival

We decided to take our own twist on the Edinburgh International Festival. We had our lovely piper, Alex, playing for our residents in the garden. We enjoyed Scottish smoked salmon and cream cheese. Scottish snacks and of course a good ole cup of tea!

Church Service

We enjoyed a wonderful church service from our lovely friends at the Chatham Evangelical Church. We listened to verses from bible and sung beautiful hymns, including a well known favourite, Amazing Grace.

, ,

International Cat Day

We celebrated International Cat Day; Kim, one of our Activities Coordinators, brought in her cat, Tommy, to meet the residents!

The residents loved meeting Tommy and were shocked at how well behaved he was. Our Nurses and carers couldn’t resist having a cuddle with Tommy either.

, ,

Ice Lolly Reminiscence

Residents enjoyed an ice lolly and reminisce session today in the Memory Lane garden. It really helped to cool us down and enjoy the weather.

,

Euro 2021 Celebrations!

We decided to have a pre Euros celebration, music and dancing, chatting about our memories of the football and having a good laugh! We were hoping for a win for England unfortunately we were left disappointed.

Wimbledon Celebrations

We decided to join those at Wimbledon and indulge in our own strawberries and cream, paired nicely with a glass of champagne.

We started by watching the Wheelchair Tennis which we found fascinating, we then moved on to the women’s finals, residents commented on the amount of practice, determination and skill that must go in before the match and how remarkable they are!
