Activities at Chater Lodge Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Maria Durrant

Activities Coordinator

Hello. I am Maria and I have lived in Ketton for most of my life. I worked at the local primary school before joining Chater Lodge in 2019. My first role here was as a Dining Host and have now found my passion in creating an interesting and inclusive programme of activities for all our residents. I like having fun with residents, dressing up, singing songs and celebrating special events. I love being a part of the team here and my career change to Activities Coordinator is the best thing I have ever done.

Easter Cart

Easter Cart

Our Easter Cart has been decorated using residents' own creations from our arts & crafts sessions. We are holding an Easter bonnet competition and Head Chef, David, is going to judge them on Easter Sunday and award a prize to the lucky winner. In addition to all of our lovely residents receiving an Easter egg, card and a glass of sherry, we also made some hot cross buns.

Flowers for Roberta

Mr Terry Fountain, a member of the public, came in recently with flowers for one of our Senior Carers, Roberta Arnold.

It transpired that Roberta was in a local supermarket over the weekend when Mr Fountain’s wife, Stella, had quite a serious accident and Roberta intervened, delivering first aid until the paramedics arrived and congratulated her on a job well done.

Mr Fountain said he was thankful that Roberta was on hand to help and that she is a credit to the home.

Roberta says due to her training she did not think twice about going to Mrs Fountain’s aid.

25th anniversary celebrations

Chater Lodge got into the spirit of the 25th Barchester Anniversary celebrations with entertainment from Duncan William who left us wondering with his magic, a lovely buffet served by our Head Chef, Phil Adams, party games and the day was topped off with live entertainment from the Ketton Community Choir. Sir Laurence Howard KCVO OBE JP also joined us to celebrate the day. Relatives, residents and visitors were able to wander round the stalls that came along to showcase their products. It was a lovely day bringing everyone together to celebrate 25 years for Barchester Healthcare.

Rat Pack Day

Rat Pack Day was a hit amongst the residents. Live Entertainer, Alan Jackson, sang classics by Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin, amongst others, whilst residents danced, sang along and sipped mocktails throughout the afternoon.
