Activities at Chater Lodge Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Maria Durrant

Activities Coordinator

Hello. I am Maria and I have lived in Ketton for most of my life. I worked at the local primary school before joining Chater Lodge in 2019. My first role here was as a Dining Host and have now found my passion in creating an interesting and inclusive programme of activities for all our residents. I like having fun with residents, dressing up, singing songs and celebrating special events. I love being a part of the team here and my career change to Activities Coordinator is the best thing I have ever done.

Life at Chater Lodge Care Home

,

The Chater Chicks

The Chater Chicks came from Living Eggs and will remain with us when grown, living in the sensory garden.

The Twilight Games

The Twilight Games

Some of our lovely ladies took part in The Twilight Games recently. Joyce, Hazel, Dorothy, Jean, Bet, Diane and Doris were awesome and thoroughly enjoyed some beanbag tossing, chair basketball, chair volleyball and bowls.

The Twilight Games is an initiative by Active Rutland to encourage care homes to submit scores and compete against each other and keep fit. We are trialing this for them with another home and will continue to take part, as a lot of fun was had by all.

The Rutland Poppy Project

The Rutland Poppy Project

The Rutland Poppy Project came to visit so we could make some clay poppies. These will be displayed alongside 10,000 poppies at Oakham castle in October 2018 to commemorate 100 years since the end of The Great War.

A number of residents, staff and visiting relatives made a clay poppy, including Mary Ray who, at 106, was alive 100 years ago!

We will take a trip to see our finished poppies in October.

Open Day

Our open day saw many visitors coming to have a look at our fabulous refurbishment.

The sunshine was out and a wonderful buffet and impressive cakes were enjoyed by all, including the Mayor and Mayoress of Stamford.

We were entertained by Rutland Rejuvenated Choir and the amazing magician, Ricky Locke, plus some amazing raffle prizes were won.

Outing to Foxdale

We recently visited the Foxdale Equine Facility. Doris, Jean and Veronica visited the horses and we explored as much as possible. It was a delightful day, and Veronica touched a horse for the first time at the age of 96.
