Activities at Chater Lodge Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Maria Durrant

Activities Coordinator

Hello. I am Maria and I have lived in Ketton for most of my life. I worked at the local primary school before joining Chater Lodge in 2019. My first role here was as a Dining Host and have now found my passion in creating an interesting and inclusive programme of activities for all our residents. I like having fun with residents, dressing up, singing songs and celebrating special events. I love being a part of the team here and my career change to Activities Coordinator is the best thing I have ever done.

In the Mood for Dancing

In the Mood for Dancing

Every afternoon on our Memory Lane community we try to have a bit of a dance, led by the lovely Wendy. Care staff like to join in too, dancing to a range of songs requested by residents.

Big Summer BBQ Bash

We held our Big Summer BBQ Bash on August 11th; lots of visitors came and brought the sun with them. Two donkeys – Basil and Towy – came from Mike's Donkeys with their lovely handler, Liz, to give the children rides, and Basil came into the home to visit residents in their rooms.

Our chickens are now living in their outside coop and are free to roam the community garden during the day. Belinda the hen is particularly friendly and always happy to see residents and their loved ones.

The Twilight Games: Round 2

The Twilight Games: Round 2

Chater Lodge residents recently took part in the Twilight Games. This is a new scheme run by Active Rutland to encourage the older generations. Nine residents took part in activities such as chair volleyball, pétanque, chair basketball and beanbag tossing. Later on in the week, Danielle from Active Rutland returned with our medals and certificates.
