Activities at Chater Lodge Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Maria Durrant

Activities Coordinator

Hello. I am Maria and I have lived in Ketton for most of my life. I worked at the local primary school before joining Chater Lodge in 2019. My first role here was as a Dining Host and have now found my passion in creating an interesting and inclusive programme of activities for all our residents. I like having fun with residents, dressing up, singing songs and celebrating special events. I love being a part of the team here and my career change to Activities Coordinator is the best thing I have ever done.

Festival of Floats

The theme this year was 'fun'.

Folks at Chater Lodge decided to dress up as acts from a Victorian circus and the General Manager, Wendy Kaya, was actually amused as old Queen Vic herself.

We had a ringmaster, clowns & jesters, a seal balancing a ball, a strong man and, of course, the bearded lady. The highlight of the day was winning the best commercial float award, which we retain from last year.

Care Home Open Day

This year’s Care Home Open Day was a big success. We decided to bring the seaside indoors and enjoyed a BBQ for lunch. The Deputy Mayor of Oakham spent the day with us and everyone loved spending time with a Shetland pony brought in by The Phoenix Children's Foundation.

Zoolab

Zoolab

Residents had the opportunity to interact and learn about some exotic animals and reptiles, including a corn snake, a pigmy hedgehog and a white tree frog. They were all very brave and did not hesitate in participating.

Red Nose Day

Red Nose Day

Residents made and decorated cakes for Comic Relief throughout the morning and were entertained by Brian singing with his guitar in the afternoon. Plenty of laughs were heard between songs as Brian told jokes and anecdotes.

St Patrick's Day

St Patrick's Day

Residents & staff enjoyed dressing up for St. Patrick’s Day at Chater Lodge. We enjoyed an afternoon sing along to traditional songs and answering questions in an Irish-themed quiz.
