Activities at Bamfield Lodge Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Life at Bamfield Lodge Care Home

World Bee Day

In recognition of World Bee Day 2021 and the vital role pollinators play to the world’s ecosystems, residents at Bamfield Lodge have been busy planting pollen rich seeds which we will be adding to our gardens. We have also enjoyed sampling some local honey as well as some honey-rich Mead.

Cinco de Mayo

Residents have been enjoying a Mexican-themed party to recognise Cinco de Mayo. We began by creating some Mexican folk art, inspired by the artist Freda Kahlo. We then sampled several different salsa and guacamole dips with tortilla chips and took part in a Mexican quiz and word game. It has also been great fun to listen to a music playlist of traditional Mexican songs and indulge in some special mocktails and cocktails.

Ice Cream Sunday

Residents enjoyed a trip down memory lane recently, when we shared our memories of going to the cinema, or the ‘flicks’, as they were affectionately known.

Everyone remembered the usherettes with their torches and the thrill of buying an ice cream at the local cinema.

Research has shown that eating ice cream can reduce the levels of stress in the body and so can help us to relax.

So what better way to finish our reminiscing than by enjoying a lovely choc ice or favourite snack? Because as we all know, a little of what you fancy, does you good!

Mama Mia!

Everyone had a fabulous afternoon learning about the origins of the group and discovering Abba’s illustrious career in music.

Community Cohesion

Residents at Bamfield Lodge have enjoyed creating Easter baskets, chocolate-filled gift bags and seasonal treats for local children. Our older adults have appreciated being able to make a valuable contribution to our community and have formed a strong link with Zion Bristol.

St David's Day

Happy St David’s Day from us all at Bamfield Lodge!

We’ve all had a lovely day discussing Welsh traditions and customs. We learnt about the history of love spoons and also listened to the poetry of Dylan Thomas.

In Arts & Crafts sessions this month, our residents made paper daffodils to decorate our lounges. In the next session, we enjoyed a cookery afternoon when we made daffodil shaped biscuits. We all agreed they were delicious!

Our music today included The Fron Male Voice Choir, Tom Jones, Shirley Bassey and of course the Welsh National Anthem. One of our gentleman, originally from Wales, treated us to a rendition of the traditional Welsh song, ‘Sospan Fach’ - Well done Sir!

We then all enjoyed a lovely cup of tea and some Welsh cakes!

‘Dydd Gwyl Dewi Hapus’ - to you all!
