Activities at Awel-Y-Mor Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Jo & Julie

Activities Coordinators

Awel-Y-Mor's activities team consists of three Activities Coordinators, each having a specialist unique role within the group, including work in the multi-sensory concept, as well as organising days out, trips to sporting events and pop concerts, and arranging themed days. Jo has been with us for over ten years, beginning her Barchester career as a Carer, and Julie joined us in 2018.

Halloween Fun

Our Halloween restaurant evening was very spooky where the residents, relatives and staff members made a big effort to dress up, they had fantastic food, great entertainment and lots of raffle prizes.

A few days later the activities team organised a pumpkin carving afternoon for residents and staff children/grandchildren where they had entertainment and spooky goodies.

Celebrating Excellence

Tracy Morgan, Senior Care Assistant at Awel-Y-Mor, was recently presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2019 Barchester Care Awards on 3rd October.

Genevieve Glover, Director of HR at Barchester and a judge for the category said of Tracy that “Tracy is a born carer. No matter how tired or rushed the job might be, Tracy always has a smile on her face for everyone. Approachable, helpful and knowledgeable, Tracy will frequently go the extra mile to be helpful because she simply loves what she does. Having worked for Barchester for 19 years, Tracy has been described as exemplary and inspiring by her peers, making difficult days better for her colleagues, residents and resident families. A compassionate teacher, Tracy ensures none of her colleagues ever faces challenges on their own, and her team, as well as all of us here at Barchester couldn’t be more proud and impressed by her attitude towards her work.”

Tracy said of her win that, “I am very proud, and very honoured to be receiving this award. We work hard here at Barchester with a focus on the people we care for, and not for accolades, but it really is very special to be recognised in this way.”

Macmillan Coffee Morning

The Mayor and a local county councillor joined us for homemade cakes and to support a resident from the home, Sharon Cooper, who did 'Brave the Shave' for Macmillan Cancer Support, and has managed to raise over £300.

Rock Choir

Rock Choir

We visited our sister home Hafan y Coed for their summer fete, where the local rock choir was asked to perform. We took some residents to see Sarah Davies, Awel y Mor's activities coordinator,  who is a member of the choir. Everyone had fun and enjoyed the event.
