Activities at Alice Grange Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Penny Allen

Lead Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Penny and I am the Lead Activities Coordinator here at Alice Grange.

I have many years of experience working in care homes in Activities, leisure and lifestyle roles.

I love being part of the Alice Grange team and supporting our residents to live their best lives with fun, interesting, and varied activities available every week. I always feel that the residents' input into our weekly planner is important as it gives all residents equal opportunity to explore new interests as well as keeping up with previous passions and hobbies.

Arts And Crafts Club

Inspired by National Vegetarian Week, the Alice Grange Arts & Crafts Club have been creating bookmarks to donate to the local schools.

Using various vegetables to print and paint onto recycled paper these vegetable-based creations look wonderful and will be gratefully received by the local school children.

International Nurses Day

Coinciding with the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, International Nurses Day, held on Wednesday 12th May, is a day to celebrate nurses and care staff around the world. Residents and staff at Alice Grange, were happy to get involved by giving their nurses some well deserved recognition along with some chocolatey treats.

This year, more than ever, we are hugely indebted to all our care staff, and we are incredibly proud to applaud their extraordinary efforts and commitment, on this special day of recognition. International Nurses’ Day is a day to give thanks for the dedication of care givers everywhere, who go above and beyond the call of duty to deliver extraordinary care and support.

Andrea, General Manager at the home, said: “At Alice Grange, our nurses and staff are hard-working, dedicated, and passionate about caring for others, and that compassion and commitment has shone through even more over the past year. They continue to work tirelessly, and I’m proud of the professionalism and duty of care they uphold. All their efforts are focused on delivering the best possible care for our residents, so it’s nice to take this time to show our appreciation in return. It is also lovely to celebrate our residents who were nurses themselves and thank them for all the hard work they did during their careers.”

Elvis Garden Concert

Elvis Was Here!

Friday saw our favourite Elvis impersonator visit Alice Grange and play a concert in our garden. A fantastic afternoon with great weather allowed our residents to line the garden, windows and balcony to watch Elvis strut his stuff and croon his way through our favourite tunes. The whole home rocked and rolled with The King.

Inspired By Spring At Art Club

The Art Club at Alice Grange have been working on Spring inspired projects this week. With the weather so beautiful and our garden beginning to bloom it would be hard not to want to create wonderful illustrations and paintings of the flowers and plants that we are seeing around us.

Easter Fun At Alice Grange

The Easter Bank Holiday weekend was choc-full of eggcellent activities, laughter, fun, faith and delicious food!

Our residents accessed online services from local churches, had a superb Easter lunch, received Easter Eggs, swapped family Easter traditions, created Easter themed art and decorations for the home and enjoyed a range of Easter themed cooking activities all weekend including the residents versus kitchen team Easter Cake competition.

International Women's Day

We celebrated International Women's Day at Alice Grange with a presentation from General Manager Andrea on some of the women who have inspired her. This talk included a particular reference to Mary Seacole as she displayed great resilience and dedication in the Crimean war but was not as well-known as Florence Nightingale until after her death.

Residents and staff spent the afternoon in discussion over the women who have inspired them personally and those who they believe have had the greatest impact throughout history.

Andrea's thought provoking presentation was the catalyst for a debate over how some modern women will be remembered, and how many great women are often lauded only after their time. Together we raised a glass of Prosecco to those women who helped shape the world we live in today.
