Activities at Westvale House Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Joanne Sherwood

Activities Coordinator

Hi, I'm Joanne and I'm the Activities Co-ordinator at Westvale House! I joined the team in December 2023 and absolutely love my role. Getting to spend time with our residents every day and getting to know each of them more and more, is such a privilege.

I get to create and tailor our activities to the preferences of each individual resident, making sure they're all doing things they'll absolutely love, and that brings me and the rest of the team so much joy. Making each of their days special is what I believe my job is all about.

Life at Westvale House Care Home

Return to indoor visiting

For residents at Westvale House care home in Warrington, the long awaited reunion with one family member has become a reality, as one single named visitor is now allowed to visit each resident in their bedroom.

There has been much anticipation of this moment by families and residents alike.  Guidance was issued by the Government on March 4 and Barchester Healthcare, who run Westvale House care home, is proceeding with a safe and cautious approach to visiting. Strict protocols are in place with all visitors required to have a negative Lateral Flow Device test result before being allowed into the home, and infection control measures and social distancing in place for every visit, with hand holding allowed but not recommended.

Despite the need for testing and social distancing, it was still welcome news for so many residents and their family members to be able to meet in the comfort of their bedroom. Residents and their relatives enjoyed getting together and catching up face to face.

Birthday celebrations

Westvale resident, Rob celebrated his birthday with his son during an indoor visit to the home with a specially delivered afternoon tea treat.

General Manager, Charlotte Aspinall at Westvale care home, said: “It is wonderful to be able to celebrate this occasion with Rob and his son, it is always great to see our residents who love life and enjoy having fun with their celebrations”

Baking Club

Residents from Westvale recently enjoyed an afternoon of cupcake making as part of their baking club, which took them back to their younger years.  Baking sessions are a popular activity for the home and the activity had taste buds tingling.

Charlotte Aspinall, General Manager said: “The residents enjoyed getting creative with their decorations as it not only brings back memories of their childhood, but also times when they’ve baked with their own children and grandchildren. Once all the cakes were decorated, we all enjoyed sitting down with a cup of tea and a home-made cake.”

Movie magic for Residents

Residents of Westvale enjoyed a little movie magic and a socially distanced relaxing morning to enjoy their chosen film accompanied by refreshments and delicious chocolate treats. Residents were captivated by the colours and sounds of this wonderful movie.
