Activities at The Cedars Bourne Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Helen Hudson

Activities Coordinator

Hello. I’m Helen, the Activities Coordinator at The Cedars. I joined the team in 2021 and I have lots of skills that I can use to create an interesting and varied programme of activities, events and celebrations for residents to enjoy. I am a qualified holistic therapist and offer an holistic approach to activities in the home, I love creating new activities that our residents enjoy, taking residents out on day trips and promoting wellbeing through lots of different activities. When I am not at work I love playing my clarinet, crocheting and art - I use all of these in my role.

Life at The Cedars Bourne Care Home

Getting Creative

Residents have recently been using their creative flare to colour and make some flowers to display and brighten everyone’s spirits in time for Christmas.

It’s the perfect opportunity to get together indoors and relax when the weather hasn’t been so bright. Not only are our residents keeping very sociable, but they are also learning some new skills.

Some ladies have been surprised in finding out that doing art doesn’t always need to be perfect it’s about expressing yourself on a blank canvas.

Firework Competition

Residents were delighted to receive all the creative picture of fireworks displays from Bourne Abbey School children for our home's competition.

They spent the afternoon going through all the pictures, deciding who should be the winner for the firework competition.

We then put all the pictures up in our garden lounge so everyone can admire the colourful art work.

World Poetry Day

Residents spent the day reading the most famous poems and our favourites. Ellen was able to enjoy sharing her poetry club experiences with us.

World Food Day

Residents celebrated World Food Day by having a sensory afternoon of tasting different foods. We all tried some Mexican, Indian, Chinese and Italian foods.

It was a great day, which sparked lots of discussion about food!

Sculpting for Halloween

Residents enjoyed getting creative, sculpting with colourful clay to make figures for Halloween. Once the residents got used to the feel of the clay, they started to use their artist minds to mould and shape some Halloween figures like a pumpkin, cat and a mouse.

Dog Competition

Residents have been judging photos of dogs that have been submitted by family or staff. They individually chose their favourite top 3 pictures to determine the winners.

Each dog that took part received a toy and the top prize of a dog grooming voucher goes to the dog with the most votes. The winner of the competition was Coco.
