Activities at Red Oaks Care Home

We believe in making a difference to the lives of people living here with us and ensure that we provide a lifestyle full of choice and stimulation that is centred around each resident here at Red Oaks. This includes a whole host of varied activities, together with regular trips out around the region, taking full advantage of the home’s minibus. Our aim is to enable each person we support to continue to do the things they enjoy for as long as they possibly can.

Sue McHoy

Activities Coordinator

My role as activity coordinator at Red Oaks is ensuring that all residents have a full and varied activity program. Using our getting to know me books and knowing our residents backgrounds develop our activity program. Having lived in Henfield for the past 10 years I enjoy assisting residents maintaining and forming new the community connections.

I am passionate about my role, the part is having fun and making people smile.

Pony Visit

Red Oaks has always welcomed pets into the home, but this was the first time that we've had a pony here. Dooley is a 2 year old Shetland pony, who stopped by recently, much to the delight of residents.

Rabbits at Red Oaks

Rabbits at Red Oaks

No one can not appreciate having a cute rabbit sitting on their laps. We had 12 rabbits come to see residents at Red Oaks, and they were all passed around and everyone made a huge fuss of them. We loved it!

Garden Party

Garden Party

Every year, Red Oaks hosts a garden party for residents, relatives, volunteers and friends, as a way of saying thank you to everyone for their help and support throughout the year. There was lots of champagne and strawberries for everyone, with entertainment from the Rocky Road Duo.

A Night to Remember

A Night to Remember

Staff at Red Oaks have taken part in a sponsored fun 'Night to Remember Walk' to raise money for St Barnabas charity, based in Worthing, West Sussex.

By joining together for a midnight walk, we faced the dark united and showed our support to hundreds of local people and families that face life-limiting illnesses. Residents, their relatives and staff were all very supportive and were there to cheer on the participants as they began the fundraising challenge. The Red Oaks team included Linda Ryan, Marilyn Knight, Ashley Hobbs, Becky Urquhart Hobbs, Frances Urquhart, Becky Davis and Niamh Ryan.

Red Oaks is hoping to raise in excess of £800 by completing the challenge, which will be donated to the St Barnabas.

Festival of Gardens & Arts

The Henfield Festival of Gardens & Arts Weekend has been running for the past 19 years. Red Oaks has played a major part in the weekend for the past 12 years as we have one of the largest Gardens in Henfield. Over the course of the weekend we had many bands and Orchestras playing in our grounds and Craft people were displaying their talents in the Red Oaks grounds. All money raised over the weekend goes to nominated charities. Over the weekend we had over 1,000 visitors to our garden.

Proms in the Park at Red Oaks

Red Oaks nursing home and members of the Henfield community came together in style for an evening quintessential music in aid of raising funds for the local Henfield community fund.

The sun shone as the community arrived to join the residents and relatives of Red Oaks dressed for an evening at The Proms with their picnics and plenty of flag waving. Brass Fusion demonstrated their virtuosity with music in a variety of styles from the traditional spiritual, ‘swing low, sweet chariot’ to the Beatles, ‘Penny Lane’. A sea of waving flags greeted Sidonie Winter, Henfield’s own Opera singer led the sing-a-long.
