Activities at Red Oaks Care Home

We believe in making a difference to the lives of people living here with us and ensure that we provide a lifestyle full of choice and stimulation that is centred around each resident here at Red Oaks. This includes a whole host of varied activities, together with regular trips out around the region, taking full advantage of the home’s minibus. Our aim is to enable each person we support to continue to do the things they enjoy for as long as they possibly can.

Sue McHoy

Activities Coordinator

My role as activity coordinator at Red Oaks is ensuring that all residents have a full and varied activity program. Using our getting to know me books and knowing our residents backgrounds develop our activity program. Having lived in Henfield for the past 10 years I enjoy assisting residents maintaining and forming new the community connections.

I am passionate about my role, the part is having fun and making people smile.

Christmas Cake Competition

Every year, Barchester care homes across the country take part in the Barchester Christmas Cake Competition. This year, we entered into two categories: 'Kitchen Staff' and ' Residents'. Four of the Kitchen staff members entered separately, and the residents did an amazing job of decorating their own entry. Glenda Williams, one of our Kitchen staff, actually won the competition with her creation.

Christmas Jumper Day

All residents and staff at Red Oaks have been encouraged to buy, borrow or decorate their own special Christmas jumpers and donate £1 to Save the Children. In total, over £160 was raised for charity. Some of the residents have gotten very creative and decorated their own glitzy knitwear with tinsel, stars, baubles and snowflakes.

Lifetime Achievement Award

Lifetime Achievement Award

2017 marked Barchester's 25th anniversary and, to honour the occasion, we decided to change the criteria for the 'Lifetime Achievement Award' to recognise staff members who have worked at the company for 25 years or longer. Everyone who has worked for Barchester for that length of time has contributed a huge amount to its success and we are incredibly grateful to all our long-serving staff.

The judges found it too hard to pick between the 4 Divisional Winners and therefore decided it was appropriate that they all were National Winners!

So this year's winners are:

Kanita Oakey-Kierman from Hickathrift House
Sharon Haigh from Red Oaks
June Hoggart from South View
Alison Dickson from Balclutha Court

Congratulations all!

The Wedding: Part II

The Wedding: Part II

What do you do when you have made every arrangement for your big wedding day, then suddenly realise that your grandmother is not going to be able to attend due to her medical condition?

Clare and Tom Harrison planned a big wedding at the Wilton Music Hall in London, as music has always been a very important part of their lives. It soon became clear that 'Nannie' would not be able to attend, as she would not be able to cope with the length of the wedding or being surrounded by so many people.

The wedding went ahead on the 25th August 2017 and all of the family were very disappointed that Nannie had not been able to attend. After discussions with Red Oaks, it was decided that the wedding would be re-staged at the home, so that she could be a part of the event.

All of the family dressed up exactly as they did at the original wedding for a blessing of the rings at Red Oaks. Nannie had a fantastic time surrounded by all of her immediate family and everyone enjoyed a wedding buffet in the afternoon.

A Fond Farewell

A Fond Farewell

After 27 years of continuous service at Red Oaks, Care Worker, Eve Mitchell, decided to retire. To honour this, staff and residents held a big party to see her off and wish her the very best for the future.
