Activities at Red Oaks Care Home

We believe in making a difference to the lives of people living here with us and ensure that we provide a lifestyle full of choice and stimulation that is centred around each resident here at Red Oaks. This includes a whole host of varied activities, together with regular trips out around the region, taking full advantage of the home’s minibus. Our aim is to enable each person we support to continue to do the things they enjoy for as long as they possibly can.

Sue McHoy

Activities Coordinator

My role as activity coordinator at Red Oaks is ensuring that all residents have a full and varied activity program. Using our getting to know me books and knowing our residents backgrounds develop our activity program. Having lived in Henfield for the past 10 years I enjoy assisting residents maintaining and forming new the community connections.

I am passionate about my role, the part is having fun and making people smile.

Life at Red Oaks Care Home

Breaking Down Barriers

Breaking Down Barriers

Staff and residents at Red Oaks were delighted to be visited by members of The Henfield Shed and together made a host of bird boxes for our garden.

The Henfield Shed drew up the designs and all residents were excited to be assisted by their team to put the boxes together using a variety of hammers and drills.

Residents commented that it was great to feel the power of the drill, and the finished bird boxes looked fantastic.

Burns Night Capers

Burns Night Capers

Red Oaks prepared a traditional Burns Night Supper to the tune of bagpipes, and capers continued well into the wee small hours!

Staff and residents at the home were involved in a number of activities, including cooking and tasting haggis, reading Robert Burns' poetry, listening to Scottish music and giving the time-honoured address to the ‘Great Chieftain o’ the pudding’ race’ – the haggis.

Don't Dine Alone

Don't Dine Alone

Our ‘Don’t Dine Alone’ initiative was launched as a way to reach out to isolated or vulnerable members of the local community. We recently opened our doors to 24 members of the Bramber & Beeding Over 60s Club for a Christmas lunch.

Christmas Jumper Day

Christmas Jumper Day

All residents and staff at Red Oaks were encouraged to buy, borrow or decorate their own special Christmas jumpers and donate £1 to Save the Children.

The day ended with a lovely performance from St Peter's School Choir, who were dressed in their own party clothes and Christmas jumpers.

Guy Fawkes Night

Guy Fawkes Night

Residents at Red Oaks decided to celebrate Guy Fawkes Night slightly differently this year. Each floor decided to make their own Guy, so we ended up with a mum, dad and a child Guy. None were burned on a bonfire, but all the residents had a lot of fun making them.

Alzheimer's Coffee Morning

Alzheimer's Coffee Morning

Red Oaks' coffee morning was a big success – we managed to raise £180 and, most importantly, everyone had a lot of fun doing it!

The Alzheimer's Society provides financial aid, specialist healthcare services, and all different kinds of support to those living with Alzheimer’s. The purpose of the coffee morning is to sit down with your friends and family and catch up with a nice cuppa for a good cause. The money raised will help Alzheimer’s Society make sure no one has to face the condition alone.
