Activities at Red Oaks Care Home

We believe in making a difference to the lives of people living here with us and ensure that we provide a lifestyle full of choice and stimulation that is centred around each resident here at Red Oaks. This includes a whole host of varied activities, together with regular trips out around the region, taking full advantage of the home’s minibus. Our aim is to enable each person we support to continue to do the things they enjoy for as long as they possibly can.

Sue McHoy

Activities Coordinator

My role as activity coordinator at Red Oaks is ensuring that all residents have a full and varied activity program. Using our getting to know me books and knowing our residents backgrounds develop our activity program. Having lived in Henfield for the past 10 years I enjoy assisting residents maintaining and forming new the community connections.

I am passionate about my role, the part is having fun and making people smile.

Care Awards Celebrations

Residents and staff all came together to celebrate the honour of winner two awards this year. Both very well deserved and very much appreciated. Best Garden & Life time achievement award. Marilyn was thrilled to be awarded this, for her 35 years of dedication to the home and all of its residents. Everyone clapped, cheered and toasted the afternoon away.

Salt dough creations.

Residents had a great afternoon, designing, cooking and then decorating salt dough. They watched videos to help with their creativity and were very proud of their achievements. For some it made be a new found hobby and one the home will be trying again.

Fundraising for Henfield Haven

Residents of Red Oaks joined the Henfield Movement Marathon on Saturday with aims of raising funds to support the Henfield Haven Day Care Centre.

We joined several of the events throughout the day, including the seated yoga with Kristina Banner, which was a great introduction to enrichments and benefits of yoga.

Adult ballet in the afternoon with Mandi Lines proved a challenge, which the residents and staff rose to, bringing back many memories to our residents of classes that they attended when they were younger. The conversation of ballet lasted well into the evening, when they then joined Zoe Swan, learning how to breathe to aide relaxation.

Sadly, the Haven is under threat of closure and, as a home, we wanted to support this fantastic event. There had been so much organisation and thought; we would all like to thank everyone—we had so much fun!

Sunrise Walk for St Barnabas

Charities have lost about 70% of their donations since the pandemic and this includes local hospices. Residents and staff at Red Oaks have supported St Barnabas in Worthing holding coffee mornings and completing the famous midnight walk to raise money.

This year staff are determined to continue to support the vital services at St Barnabas by completing a 7 mile walk around the beautiful gardens at Red Oaks on the 3rd October starting at 6:00 am as sun rises. This year gives us the opportunity for not only the staff to be involved but residents to join in this walk enjoying the gardens as we walk around.

If anyone would like to donate a Just Giving web page for the Red Oaks Garden Walk has been set or donations can be sent Red Oaks Care Home, The Hooks, Henfield, West Sussex, BN5 9UY

Summer BBQ

As the summer comes to an end with the sun still shining, the residents at Red Oaks enjoyed an evening barbeque of hotdogs, cheeseburgers with chips and salads.

Making Bacon

Residents recently enjoyed making bacon butties for all the residents and staff at Red Oaks. With the help of the activities team, they turned the tables on the staff by cooking and making bacon sandwiches for everyone. Care Assistant, Ashley Hobbs, waited while resident, Eileen, made his bacon sandwich.
