Activities at Red Oaks Care Home

We believe in making a difference to the lives of people living here with us and ensure that we provide a lifestyle full of choice and stimulation that is centred around each resident here at Red Oaks. This includes a whole host of varied activities, together with regular trips out around the region, taking full advantage of the home’s minibus. Our aim is to enable each person we support to continue to do the things they enjoy for as long as they possibly can.

Sue McHoy

Activities Coordinator

My role as activity coordinator at Red Oaks is ensuring that all residents have a full and varied activity program. Using our getting to know me books and knowing our residents backgrounds develop our activity program. Having lived in Henfield for the past 10 years I enjoy assisting residents maintaining and forming new the community connections.

I am passionate about my role, the part is having fun and making people smile.

Donating to the Shoe box Appeal

Residents recently got involved and helped the local shoe box appeal. They always like to help and be able to give something back where they can. We all understand how vital these essentials are to others. They had fun packing up the boxes and learnt a lot about the cause and how it helps the people it reaches.

Remembrance Sunday

It was such an honour for Red Oaks to be part of the Remembrance parade in the village. Everyone came together to pay their respects. Linda bought down a beautiful hand knitted wreath that had been made by the residents and care staff at the home.

Halloween Celebrations

Halloween celebrations that spanned the whole day. Starting with pumpkin carving and then competition. Dressing the home, the residents and even the door and window display. Red Oaks took part in the Henfield village Pumpkin trail. All topped off with a party for everyone.

Our National Winner!

Marilyn Knight was crowned as the national winner in the Lifetime Achievement category at the 2020 Barchester Care Awards, held virtually on 8th October.

The awards celebrate staff and volunteers who go the extra mile for the benefit of residents and patients living in Barchester care homes and independent hospitals.

More than 2,800 nominations were received from homes, residents, staff and relatives across the UK this year, which is nearly 1000 more than was received last year. Nominations were sent in by Barchester staff, but many more were also from residents and their families who have praised the fantastic care provided to their loved ones.

All entries have been of a very high standard and Marilyn is thrilled to have been declared as the national winner!
