Activities at Milford House Care Home

The Activities Team at Milford House are dedicated to providing a range of stimulating activities for both groups and individuals, that promote both physical and mental wellbeing based upon resident's interests both past and present. As a member of the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA) the team are always striving to incorporate best practice into the array of activities on offer and to enhance their own skills through qualification with NAPA to NVQ Level 3 in Activities Provision. The team combine weekly activity favourites such as sherry mornings with special events, musical entertainments, slide shows, outings in our own mini-bus as well as interacting with local community groups such as Plain Arts Salisbury to showcase resident art and creativity and others who come into the home to interact with our residents. Milford House also benefits from a strong network of volunteers who support the Activity Team as they deliver their programme and who, along with friends and relatives, are always welcome to come and join in our sessions and outings.

Life at Milford House Care Home

Beth Entertains

Beth Entertains

Residents enjoyed a lovely sunny afternoon in the conservatory being sung to by Beth, one of our favourite entertainers. Beth sang a variety of favourites that had everyone joining in. It was also a chance for residents to wish Beth well as she will be taking time off to have a baby, so next time we see her she may be singing a duet!

Scrabble Fun

Scrabble Fun

Residents at Milford have been enjoying regular sessions of scrabble with Steve on the big board. Everyone enjoys the experience and it is something to challenge our brains and vocabulary with. Steve was making sure that all of our words were in the dictionary, as well as keeping the score and announcing the winning team.

World Poetry Day

World Poetry Day

Staff, residents and guests commemorated World Poetry Day with readings of favourite poems and by unveiling our series of ‘Milford Sonnets', which were written by residents in conjunction with local poet/author, Pippa Roberts, and that celebrate the four seasons.

The sonnets have been mounted and framed and are now proudly hanging where residents, staff and visitors alike can appreciate them.

WaterAid

WaterAid

Residents at Milford House were delighted to welcome back Hazel Taylor of WaterAid to receive a cheque for £210 on behalf of the charity. A year ago, residents began talking about a potential cause that they would like to raise money for, when Hazel came in to give us a presentation about how any money raised for WaterAid might be used. Everyone was totally inspired by Hazel and her explanation of the charity’s work in bringing clean water and sanitation to people around the world, where everyday 900 children die due to water-related diseases. Hazel was delighted to receive the cheque and highlighted to the group that this money would give the gift of life and a safe future to 15 children.

Don't Dine Alone

Don't Dine Alone

Milford House has been taking part in Barchester’s ‘Don’t Dine Alone’ initiative, which is seeking to reduce social isolation by inviting members of the community into homes to share a meal with residents and visitors. Milford has been running this initiative throughout February and March and, due to its success, we will be extending the programme into April and May.

Pictured here with our Hostess, Louise Cooper, is Jenny Eldrett and Adele Spokes, who enjoyed lunch together here at Milford. We are delighted that they will be visiting us again next week as they enjoyed the experience so much.

Having a Hoot!

Having a Hoot!

Residents, visitors and staff were entranced by the visit of Geordie and his birds of prey. Along with a falcon, Geordie brought along his owls as well. Norman, who has the most beautiful orange eyes, is over 60 years old, which amazed us all. All the birds were so calm that residents were able to touch and hold them and we could see the strong bond between Geordie and his feathered friends. Residents who were unable to leave their rooms were also visited and everyone had a hoot.
