Activities at Milford House Care Home

The Activities Team at Milford House are dedicated to providing a range of stimulating activities for both groups and individuals, that promote both physical and mental wellbeing based upon resident's interests both past and present. As a member of the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA) the team are always striving to incorporate best practice into the array of activities on offer and to enhance their own skills through qualification with NAPA to NVQ Level 3 in Activities Provision. The team combine weekly activity favourites such as sherry mornings with special events, musical entertainments, slide shows, outings in our own mini-bus as well as interacting with local community groups such as Plain Arts Salisbury to showcase resident art and creativity and others who come into the home to interact with our residents. Milford House also benefits from a strong network of volunteers who support the Activity Team as they deliver their programme and who, along with friends and relatives, are always welcome to come and join in our sessions and outings.

Life at Milford House Care Home

Pitton School Visits Milford

Pitton School Visits Milford

We were delighted to welcome the children from Pitton School to sing carols in the home. The children came earlier in the year to sing songs and we were thrilled to have a return visit. They sang a range of carols, both in our main activities area and around the home for those unable to leave their rooms. Residents finished off the afternoon by giving each member of the choir a Christmas cracker that they had made, which were much appreciated.

Christmas Bells

Christmas Bells

Milford House was delighted to welcome members of the Fordingbridge Bell Ringers to the home to play for us. They played a range of Christmas carols and songs which got everyone singing along. The bells sounded incredibly festive, but the ringers reminded us how versatile they are and that they don't have to be saved for December!  With that in mind, we will be inviting them back during the summer of 2017!

Fun with 'Alive'

Fun with 'Alive'

Residents at Milford enjoy monthly sessions with 'Alive,' which is one of our favourite activities. The team from 'Alive' have been coming to the home for about 9 years now, and we already have them booked through 2017. The hour that they spend with us is packed full of fun, with music and movement being key, but there are quizzes and fun facts as well. The team who deliver the sessions have become friends over this time and know everyone really well, which also adds to the fun of the afternoon.

Christmas Jumper Day

Christmas Jumper Day

Here at Milford, we held a Christmas Jumper Day and our two outstanding jumper combinations are pictured here receiving their prizes from one of our regular visitors, Malcolm, who runs our 'Alive' sessions. Every day brings Christmas a little closer and getting our jumpers out helped us all get into the Christmas spirit.

Sonnets for Milford

Sonnets for Milford

Residents at Milford House have just completed a project with the help of local author and poet, Pippa Roberts, which has seen the composition of a series of sonnets on the theme of the four seasons. Our inspiration started when we celebrated Shakespeare's 400th anniversary earlier in the year, and has continued on until this month when we completed the last of our sonnets - winter.

Autumn

We catch the light of Autumn; trees
All turning to red and gold, blow
In whistling wind, and rain falls down
On sodden leaves – summer’s gone, autumn’s
Begun. Wet sunflowers hang their heavy
Heads. The grandchildren run
To Granny to say ‘hello’ – all soaked!
The hard work of harvest gives us
Full barns of corn, the harvest moon
Rises, filling the sky with burnished gold.
The bats come out, the hooting owl
Calls to the barking fox. Winter comes.

Carols with the Brownies

Carols with the Brownies

Residents at Milford House were delighted to welcome the Brownies for their annual visit to the home to sing some carols. The Brownies very sweetly brought a pot of bulbs in for each resident, which will be enjoyed over the winter as they come into bloom. Residents were determined to return the favour and had been busy making Christmas crackers stuffed with sweets for each Brownie, which were all very well received!
