Activities at Milford House Care Home

The Activities Team at Milford House are dedicated to providing a range of stimulating activities for both groups and individuals, that promote both physical and mental wellbeing based upon resident's interests both past and present. As a member of the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA) the team are always striving to incorporate best practice into the array of activities on offer and to enhance their own skills through qualification with NAPA to NVQ Level 3 in Activities Provision. The team combine weekly activity favourites such as sherry mornings with special events, musical entertainments, slide shows, outings in our own mini-bus as well as interacting with local community groups such as Plain Arts Salisbury to showcase resident art and creativity and others who come into the home to interact with our residents. Milford House also benefits from a strong network of volunteers who support the Activity Team as they deliver their programme and who, along with friends and relatives, are always welcome to come and join in our sessions and outings.

Kylie Colman

Kylie has three years experience as an Activities Co-Ordinator and has loved every moment! Having recently joined the Milford team she is looking forward to getting to know all our residents and to delivering, alongside the rest of the team, an interesting and diverse programme of activities.  She loves being outside and in particular organising trips out of the home and activities and events that take place in our gorgeous gardens.

Robin Returns

Robin Returns

All at Milford House were delighted to welcome back Robin and his piano accordion. Robin did a performance of two halves - classical waltzes, polkas and familiar tunes and, after tea, popular songs that we could all sing along to. It won't be long before Robin is back with us again and we can't wait.

Summer Art

Summer Art

Residents created some lovely summer art using flower petals from the garden. The petals were arranged between transparent sheets within a coloured frame and the results were put through the laminator to create a diverse and colourful array of pictures which we are all enjoying.

The Sunflower Diaries: Part 2

The Sunflower Diaries: Part 2

Our sunflowers have been planted out and are now making good progress despite the less than sunny weather - and are approaching 3 feet tall. We have designated the week of 5th September ‘Sunflower Week’, when we will be having a competition to guess the height of our plants, explore facts and figures about sunflowers and look at the ‘Sunflower in Art’. We look forward to watching their progress in the meantime.

Dobbie Parties with the Queen

Dobbie Parties with the Queen

Visitors of all shapes and sizes attended our Street Party celebrations for the Queen's 90th birthday, including Dobbie the PAT Dog - and his human, Emma! Dobbie is a firm favourite here at Milford; he has a wonderful range of outfits for every occasion, so he is always suitably dressed for whatever we have going on! Dobbie and Emma, who come into the home most weeks, are part of our wonderful band of volunteers who contribute so much to the lives of all who live at Milford.

Street Party

Street Party

Residents at Milford celebrated the Queen's 90th birthday (and National Care Home Open Day) with a 'Street Party'. Unfortunately, due to the damp weather, our 'street' had to be inside, but this did nothing to dampen the spirits as we sampled traditional street party food, had cream tea and sang patriotic songs, accompanied by Sophie. We finished up with a rousing rendition of God Save the Queen and Jerusalem.

A Week of Work Experience

A Week of Work Experience

Here at Milford, we were delighted to welcome Sarah and Georgia from South Wiltshire Grammar School for a week of work experience. The girls have assisted with activity sessions and have provided invaluable back room support to the Activities Team, as well as joining in with whatever the residents were doing. Residents thoroughly enjoyed their interest and company.
