Activities at Milford House Care Home

The Activities Team at Milford House are dedicated to providing a range of stimulating activities for both groups and individuals, that promote both physical and mental wellbeing based upon resident's interests both past and present. As a member of the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA) the team are always striving to incorporate best practice into the array of activities on offer and to enhance their own skills through qualification with NAPA to NVQ Level 3 in Activities Provision. The team combine weekly activity favourites such as sherry mornings with special events, musical entertainments, slide shows, outings in our own mini-bus as well as interacting with local community groups such as Plain Arts Salisbury to showcase resident art and creativity and others who come into the home to interact with our residents. Milford House also benefits from a strong network of volunteers who support the Activity Team as they deliver their programme and who, along with friends and relatives, are always welcome to come and join in our sessions and outings.

Life at Milford House Care Home

Residents Remember

Residents Remember

Residents at Milford House always take care in observing November 11th and Remembrance Sunday. This year, we have created a display in our main activity area that reflects the day. We decorated plates with poppies and chose a variety of quotes and sayings that were appropriate for the occasion. Residents also composed a ‘Remembrance Sonnet’, which will be blown up on a poster to be displayed in the home.

Fun with 'Alive'

Fun with 'Alive'

It seems unbelievable, but Malcolm from ‘Alive!’ has been coming to Milford House every month for over 10 years now and, over that time, he has come to know the staff and residents extremely well. The ‘Alive!’ session, which lasts an hour, encompasses music, movement, quizzes and just plain fun! Residents look forward to Malcolm's sessions enormously. Let’s hope that Malcolm and his team will be coming for the next 10 years.

More Music!

More Music!

As we were leading up to Remembrance Day, Karen sang songs with a remembrance theme and was wearing her own poppies in the form of her gorgeous sweater. It was a lovely afternoon and a perfect way to start off our week.

Music & Memories

Music & Memories

Here at Milford House, music is an integral part of our activities programme and we have a wide variety of musicians who come in and play for us.

One of our favourites is Robin Geard, who has been coming to the home regularly for over 4 years. Robin plays the piano accordion, which is a treat for us, and he plays a range of familiar tunes, especially folk tunes, which we all enjoy hearing and which evoke a range of memories. We already have Robin booked in for 2018 and, deservedly, he gets booked up well in advance.

Barchester's 25th Anniversary

Barchester's 25th Anniversary

Residents at Milford enjoyed a week packed full of events celebrating 25 years of Barchester Healthcare.

The week had a silver theme and started with a Silver Jubilee Street Party Lunch, followed by an afternoon of music with Amanda Parsons.

We have done Barchester proud and are looking forward to celebrating Barchester’s golden jubilee in due course!

Musical Magic

Musical Magic

Residents were treated to another concert from Music in Hospitals & Care, courtesy of guitarist, Jonathan Pragg. Jonathan, who uses a special guitar that has no central opening, with sound escaping from the sides instead, played a fabulous range of classical music, interspersed with well-known film themes, which had us all entranced.

The general consensus was that 'Argentine Tango', which transported us all to the streets of Buenos Aries, was the fan favourite.

Thank you to this amazing organisation for so generously providing us with these concerts. We are lucky enough to have another one to look forward to next month.
