Activities at Milford House Care Home

The Activities Team at Milford House are dedicated to providing a range of stimulating activities for both groups and individuals, that promote both physical and mental wellbeing based upon resident's interests both past and present. As a member of the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA) the team are always striving to incorporate best practice into the array of activities on offer and to enhance their own skills through qualification with NAPA to NVQ Level 3 in Activities Provision. The team combine weekly activity favourites such as sherry mornings with special events, musical entertainments, slide shows, outings in our own mini-bus as well as interacting with local community groups such as Plain Arts Salisbury to showcase resident art and creativity and others who come into the home to interact with our residents. Milford House also benefits from a strong network of volunteers who support the Activity Team as they deliver their programme and who, along with friends and relatives, are always welcome to come and join in our sessions and outings.

Life at Milford House Care Home

Bunnies at the Ready

Bunnies at the Ready

Here at Milford House, these cute little chocolate bunnies were all lined up ready to make their appearance on Easter Sunday. They managed to stay in hiding until Easter morning, when they hopped their way on to everyone’s breakfast trays to make the start of the day that little bit more special. So, despite the less-than-pleasant weather, everyone had a lovely Easter day.

Preparing for Easter

Preparing for Easter

Residents at Milford House had a busy afternoon making Easter cards to send out to special friends and family. It was a colourful and fun afternoon and the results were great; the variety of cards was fabulous – anyone would love to receive one in the post!

Honouring Milford's Volunteers

Honouring Milford's Volunteers

Residents, staff and visitors were delighted to welcome the Mayor of Salisbury, Councillor John Lindley, to the home to help us celebrate our wonderful group of volunteers who give their time so freely to the home and residents.

The Mayor was on hand to give out certificates and gifts to over 15 volunteers who were able to attend on the day, and the afternoon was rounded off with a musical performance from Dave Dawson and, of course, a Milford tea! It was a wonderful afternoon and we celebrated some very special people.

That's Salisbury also did a piece on this, which can by viewed by clicking here.

Students at Milford

Students at Milford

We are delighted to welcome students from Wiltshire College, who are coming into Milford as part of their work placement. They are studying beauty and are contributing to our ‘Nails & Natter’ sessions and helping us all look wonderful! They will be with us weekly for the next few months and we look forward to their visits.

Flower Power

Flower Power

Residents were overwhelmed when a representative from Sainsbury's in Salisbury dropped by and left about 20 bunches of flowers for us all to enjoy. This was flower heaven! So, we changed our afternoon activity to flower arranging, which was enthusiastically entered into by everyone.

Not only was it fun to arrange the lovely blooms, but we also tried to identify them all and looked at them closely before popping them into our vases.

We are so grateful to Gary, the manager at the local Sainsbury's, for thinking of us and having the blooms delivered, and we are hoping to welcome him and some of his team to the home for tea shortly.

Finding the Right Words

Finding the Right Words

Residents at Milford House were delighted when Steve, who runs our giant Scrabble games, was able to reschedule our session, which had to be postponed previously due to the arrival of ‘The Beast from the East’.

Brain power was put to good use to create this great looking board, but nobody would tell us which team came out on top. Chris left just in time to avoid the ‘Mini Beast from the East’, so we’re not sure if we should invite him back, as the weather seems to follow him around!
