Activities at Milford House Care Home

The Activities Team at Milford House are dedicated to providing a range of stimulating activities for both groups and individuals, that promote both physical and mental wellbeing based upon resident's interests both past and present. As a member of the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA) the team are always striving to incorporate best practice into the array of activities on offer and to enhance their own skills through qualification with NAPA to NVQ Level 3 in Activities Provision. The team combine weekly activity favourites such as sherry mornings with special events, musical entertainments, slide shows, outings in our own mini-bus as well as interacting with local community groups such as Plain Arts Salisbury to showcase resident art and creativity and others who come into the home to interact with our residents. Milford House also benefits from a strong network of volunteers who support the Activity Team as they deliver their programme and who, along with friends and relatives, are always welcome to come and join in our sessions and outings.

Pretty Posies

Pretty Posies

Continuing our theme of changing seasons, residents decided to redecorate and update the notice board in the conservatory with a flower/seasons style. With this in mind, we have created some really lovely and colourful flower posies that are really bright and cheerful and can be seen really clearly. Good job, everyone!

Seasonal Changes

Seasonal Changes

Here at Milford House, many residents have a close connection to the countryside and many have been keen gardeners, so reflecting the changes in season is important. With this in mind, we have been changing all the displays in our activities and communal areas to chime with the harvest activity that we see all around us. Residents have chosen quotes to reflect these changes and then decorated plates, which we have put around our mirror so that we can share our thoughts and feelings with everyone – and we are all rather pleased with the results!

Banishing the August Blues

Banishing the August Blues

Residents at Milford House enjoyed live entertainment by Chico, who sang for us. With his guitar and anecdotes of the music industry, Chico soon had us all singing along to old favourites and listening to some new songs that will surely become favourites, just like Chico himself! Let’s hope that for Chico’s next visit in September, the weather will be a little nicer.

Battle of the Bowls

Battle of the Bowls

We regularly welcome a fitness instructor from Salisbury District Council into the home who gets us all moving and playing active games to help with the retention of mobility. He also brings out the competitiveness in everyone, as the competition for the highest bowls score is fierce. It’s all good fun though, and in our eyes, everyone’s a winner!

An Afternoon with Riminy

An Afternoon with Riminy

Residents at Milford House were delighted to welcome back Riminy to play the piano for us. Riminy has been a volunteer at the home and has offered to come in over the holidays to play for us, which is a real treat. She played a range of classical music and familiar songs and tunes from some well-known musicals. Afterwards, residents reminisced about their own piano-playing days. We all agreed that being able to play a musical instrument is a lovely talent and that we are very lucky to have Riminy coming in to play for us.

No Alarms

No Alarms

We were delighted to have an unexpected visit from members of Dorset & Wiltshire Fire Service. They were dealing with a small incident near to the home, so we decided to invite the team in for a well-earned cup of tea. This, of course, meant a chat with residents, who thoroughly enjoyed the company of their unannounced visitors, as well as the ever-present tea and a slice of chocolate and marmalade cake, which did the rounds.
