Activities at Melbourn Springs Care Home

Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is a major focus of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat will always be welcomed.

Denise Ashby

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Denise and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Melbourn Springs. I joined Barchester in 2022 and always strive to support and care for all of our residents in a way that best suits each individual.

Making sure that our residents have things to do that they really enjoy doing is something that I hold very close to my heart. It is so important to make sure that they are happy and enjoy all of the activities and events that we host for them.

A lot of our residents also enjoy our special trips out on our Mini Bus as we create new, special memories together at Melbourn Springs.

Melbourn Community Coronavirus Response - Foodbank

The Melbourn Coronavirus Community Response (M.C.C.R) was set up in March to respond to the needs of the community during the Covid-19 crisis. The MCCR is a small team formed from Melbourn Hub, Melbourn Parish Council and Melbourn Timebank - coming together to offer practical help, and to let every household know how to access any assistance they might need via phone lines that are open 7 days a week between 9am and 4pm on 01763 263303 # 1

As well as collecting/delivering prescriptions, organising grocery shopping for local people who are “shielding” the response group have also set up a Foodbank for the village between 11am and 2pm on Thursdays at the Melbourn Hub, 30 High Street, Melbourn, SG8 6DZ.

Following on from Mental Health Kindness week, all of the staff at Melbourn Springs wanted to donate to the Foodbank to help support such a great cause and the fantastic community group who really are leading the way in the village COVID-19 response.

If you cannot leave your home, call the MCCR on 01763 263303, tell them what you need, and they will deliver it to you! Melbourn truly is blessed with such an amazingly kind community shining brightly in these challenging times.

Mental Health Awareness Week - Kindness

Every year the Mental Health Foundation host Mental Health Awareness Week to raise awareness and promote good mental health for all. The theme this year was kindness.

Kindness and mental health are deeply connected. Kindness strengthens relationships, develops community, deepens solidarity, is an antidote to isolation and creates a sense of belonging. It truly is the cornerstone to our individual and collective mental health.

To mark this special week the team and our residents at Melbourn Springs have been very busy compiling our Melbourn Springs journey board - including all of the exceptionally kind comments that the home has received from our friends in the local community.

Our Administration Manager Ian, is seen here holding just one lovely cards that our home has received, and our General Manager Karen is pictured with one of our home's smile boards to promote positivity, thoughtfulness, conscientiousness and above all kindness.

The whole team at Melbourn Springs are always looking for ways to do something to show our appreciation to our community, and spread a little kindness to say thank you to our friends for all of their amazing support that they have bestowed upon our team, residents and their new home, Melbourn Springs.

Dementia Action Week and Dementia Friends

Our Home Services Advisor Dan conducted a Dementia Friends session for our staff at Melbourn Springs to support National Dementia Action Week and the extensive Barchester Dementia training programme that all of our staff have already completed.

Laura, our Activities Co-ordinator also demonstrated our Magic Table - a specialist piece of technology in our Memory Lane Activity Cafe which has been designed to support those living with Dementia with specialist games, colouful light projections - enabling our residents to increase movement and positive mental stimulation.

Melbourn Springs is working alongside other local businesses and support groups to enable Melbourn and Royston to become even more dementia-friendly. Keep an eye out for the next Dementia Friends session and Magic Table community events at Melbourn Springs once government guidelines change.
