Activities at Melbourn Springs Care Home

Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is a major focus of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat will always be welcomed.

Denise Ashby

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Denise and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Melbourn Springs. I joined Barchester in 2022 and always strive to support and care for all of our residents in a way that best suits each individual.

Making sure that our residents have things to do that they really enjoy doing is something that I hold very close to my heart. It is so important to make sure that they are happy and enjoy all of the activities and events that we host for them.

A lot of our residents also enjoy our special trips out on our Mini Bus as we create new, special memories together at Melbourn Springs.

Thank you Betty this International Friendship Day

Our dear friend of Melbourn Springs, Elizabeth Murphy (Betty) from Melbourn has very kindly knitted our staff 'Ear Savers' to wear with our Face Masks. The savers have been exceptionally well received with Karen our General Manager exclaiming "Wow, these are so comfortable and such a kind gift this International Friendship Day too!"

But Betty didn't stop there! Also sending a delightful poem that she had written during the lockdown period called, 'Isolation Musings' - which our residents thoroughly enjoyed. So much so that Betty’s poem is displayed in our reception and has been entered into the national Poem's in the Pandemic Competition.

We are all rooting for you Betty - you really are exceptionally gifted and thank you for being such an amazing friend of Melbourn Springs.

Our residents at Melbourn Springs highlighted at their last resident meeting that they would like their very own vegetable patch and Rob our Head of Maintenance was on hand to enable the plans come to fruition.

2 days later and Melbourn Springs now has its very own resident Tomato plantation and Herb Garden too! Needless to say our green fingered residents are absolutely delighted and cannot wait to collect the first crop.

Feed the Birds!

Our residents at Melbourn Springs really do love their wildlife!

After carefully filling our home bird feeders and following deep discussions with our Activities Co-ordinator Laura about where they should be placed, our gardens are now well stocked to look after our winged friends both large and small.

The Wood Pigeons have already been visiting and one resident has even named the little Robin that comes to visit her every morning - Robbie!

Sunflower Competition

In conjunction with Melbourn Primary School, some of our residents at Melbourn Springs have planted their very own Sunflower Seeds for the competition.

Three weeks in and the seeds are really coming on now. Careful daily checks and watering, we are waiting with bated breath as to which one will be the tallest. Who do you think will be our winner? Looks like it may be a close call!
